Accuracy out of the box and trigger are most important. After that would be action and fit+finish. What is my best option under $500? How about under $750?

You looking for a wood or synthetic stock. If wood then there aint much if any in the 500 range.

There are lots and lots of rifles that will fit the bill, but I absolutely agree that the Tikka T3 is one of the best value rifles available.

Tikka is going to be a good one hard to argue that.

For the money I'm not sure the Thompson Venture can be beat in the 1st category. Rem700 is good if you plan on upgrading a bunch of stuff because of the aftermarket parts availability.

Like Judd said if you plan on doing any aftermarket stuff remington 700 that's the only reason why I stick with the 700's.

Bought my son a Tikka in .243 for Christmas! Amazing gun- I am very jealous of him now. Only downside is that it is synthetic vs. wood. But that is my preference, not his.

I helped a friend with load development for a T-3 in 243, and was astonished at how well it shot, as well as how well the rifle functioned.

Went with a T3 hunter. Hopefully I'll have my hands on it early next week. Maybe this Friday if I'm lucky. Went $10 over the $750 budget after shipping costs and taxes.

I bought a Sako A7 stainless in .243 at cablea's last year for $699 on clearance. One of my most accurate guns and is light weight.

With the right powder charge under a 90 gr bullet it will put 3 touching at 100 yards, 5 inside 7/8". Very good rifles!

Well done!

Never sell it!
