Looking at a place North of Ladonia in Fannin County...the property has two stone bottom creeks running through them. Anybody familar with this area? What type of deer might be around?

Thanks...

I hunt public land up there. There aren't many deer but there's a lot of hogs in certain spots.

there are lots of deer in certain spots of fannin county. The closer you get to the river, the more deer there are.

Why you hatin' on your great aunt like that?
I say good for her. I bet she probably did it legal anyway and probably for meals, not for antlers or bragging rights.

Only if deer season was from January to December! She's been dead 15 years or so, but as I said, she shot everything she saw, not to feed her family, but because she could

Cool area seen some decent bucks come off my father in laws place near the grasslands. Lots of public land and hunters. Love the area good luck keeping people off of it if your only going to be there on the weekends though.

I've been only considering places that have limited access points...I realize that Fannin is E Texas and for some folks the season is 12 months long...lol!

Have the AR restrictions helped his deer?

I have hunted public land there. Some deer, but not great deer. You have to consider the reasons why you are looking at property there. I may be looking for new property soon as well, and Fannin will be one place I will be looking. I won't be looking there because of the great deer population, but because it will be close and convenient. IMO, there are much better places to look, but Fannin is convenient.

Fannin is close to me as well...less than an hour from home...it also has alot of hogs which offer year round hunting as well. I thik once the lakes are completed in Fannin the prices should go up quite a bit...trying to get in early, lol!

My best memories of hunting are in fannin county. I hunted private land about 15 years north of the grasslands. I sold my compound in 92 and started making and hunting with selfbows. My fondest deer hunt was with a bow I made out of bowdark (bois d ark) from a tree I cut down along....bois d ark creek. I shot an average 8 point from atop a tree, no "tree stand" but from limbs in a tree, in a funnel area. That deer died about 100 yards from where I cut that tree down.

There are 2 major creeks in Fannin. Bois d ark and the other I can't think of but its in the western part of the county. I would look at land near those creeks if possible. Both feed the red.

Make sure the place you're looking at is not in lake they are going to build up there.

The reservoir should push a lot of game up out of their refuge too. Fannin is definitely a pocket close to the big city won't be the way it is for long.
