I had a similar shock when I moved from Illinois to Texas. For all of the bad that is Illinois (mainly crook county) they have lots of public land to hunt and my father and I had good success on that land.

I think high lease prices are eventually gonna kill the sport.

Agreed. We are at our place year round hunting or just to get out of the city & escape, fish, shoot guns, etc. We were introduced to our lease by my husband's previous employer, been there ever since. You just never know when and where you will meet someone that knows of someplace to hunt or that's looking for another hunter to add to the lease. Good luck & welcome to Texas.

My pleasure Dan, not sure if suggestions helped, but as mentioned I will keep an eye out for an opportunity for you. That is a big ole deer by the way!

I have found all of my hunting opportunities via work. I feel very fortunate and lucky with my connections and friends made. If I was to start over today I would say I would have a very hard time finding a place to hunt like I do now. Good luck to you. I don't know what industry you are in but talk to as many people as possible about your passion. Hopefully you will find something.

First, Welcome to the forum. I realize our hills of texas do not resemble mountains of Montana, but there isn't anything in our woods that won't scratch poke or bite cha and there is alot of it. Good luck & good days afield.

Welcome to TX and THF. I was stationed in ID years ago. TX hunting is very different, not bad just different and that is excluding the fact that leasing drives the bus here. Best of luck to you and your family here in the Lone Star State!
