I just saw a Craigslist ad for a lease in Menard and I am not at all familiar with this area. I have two questions with the first one being is 7 guns on a 1K acres to crowded? Next one is are there any exotics and pigs? Price seemed to be ok at $8.75 an acre. I have no other details at this time.

I like the Menard area. Hunted there about 5 years. There are some nice deer taken from there every year. That said, this means nothing about the place you ask about except that it has potential.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Very good potential in the Menard area. Too many hunters IMO to have a sustainable mature buck population on 1000 acres but I guess you can't complain paying less than $1000 a gun.

Deer numbers are good. Like Pitchfork said, there's good potential. Depending on the layout of the land, 7 may not be too many. But the group as a whole has to decide to let some bucks walk and risk the neighbors dumping them. There are some exotics around that area, no way to know on your area if it has any or not. I've seen Axis, Blackbuck and some others in that area. Hunted between there and Brady for the past years.

Lots of axis deer in that area for some reason. Guy I work with hunts out that way, usually gets his limit on deer.

lots of deer in the menard area...have a friend who has a small place off 29 halfway between Mason and Menard and he I both filled the freezer. every time we sat, we saw deer....sometimes the feeder never spun(for whatever reason) they still showed up. had a shot at a nice 3.5 yr old 8 pnt but let him walk.....all total we took 3 doe and 2 spikes.
contrast that with a paid lease I was also on and shot nothing.....wont make that mistake again

Numbers of deer are good. 7 hunters on 1000 acres can be workable in that area. Exotics are highly likely and you will see lots of deer. Numbers will probably overshadow quality, but for the most part it is a good area.

A lot will depend on the habitat, livestock on it and the neighbors around it. If it is fairly open and got sheep/goats on it then it might not be as good with that many guns.

We have 7 guns on 2700 acres on the east side of the county that we have hunted for 6 years now. I would think for everyone to score a decent buck is going to be tough, our lease has got 2 bucks at 150 in six years and a few 130-140. The deer population in general has always been pretty good but with trigger happy neighbors it is hard for the bucks to get old. We had an aoudad on a game cam about three years back and a dead axis in the road, but have never seen anything else in our area. Bunch of turkeys and pigs. Do you know where in the county the lease is?

7 hunters on 1000 acres, not bad considering we hunt 4 on 216. You seem to have a very good price for the lease. If 7 is too many, then get 5 or 6...it will cost you more but then you will have less hunters

We had a group that hunted in Schleicher county back in the early 90s near Ft McKavett. I've never seen so many bucks. We just couldn't seem to break the 140" mark though. We got kicked off that place and found another lease in Kent county. That's when I got educated on a what a BIG buck looks like. There are some Dandies that come out of Menard every year though.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

7 on a thousand is great these days. LO's try to stack as many hunters as they can on a place to get more money. my opinion I think 1 per 100 acres is ok.
If I put my wife in a high fence will her rack get bigger?

We hunted North of town between Menard and Eden for about ten years. Great deer and turkey numbers. Our average bucks ranged in the 130's but we took three over 150 in that time.
