I visited relatives in New Gulf as a youngster in the late 50s and fished in the New Gulf reservoir (belonged to Gulf Sulphur Company I think). Caught large crappie and some pretty nice gar but nothing even resembling that. There was a lady at Kyle's Cleaners that took them to make what she called 'gar sausage'. Never got to sample it though.

I catch big gar everyday and unless you are 9 ft tall and that fish has a lot more girth than she looks I cant find even 200 lbs out of her , here is a 206 look at the girth on her
