Warn sets the price and no distributor is allowed to go below the set price without approval from Warn. Bet thing to look for is dealer incentives... free shipping, gift cards, free installation. If you don't mind buying a used one, they can be bought and rebuilt fairly cheap. Years ago I picked up a 15000 pound for $300, invested another $400 then sold it for $1000, which was still less then half price.
Is there any reason you MUST have a Warn?

I hear Viper makes a darn good winch. you might want to check out the viper 5000. They are cheaper and from what I understand they are better.

I've got a warn 9000 on my Jeep rubicon. I like the warn because of the reliability plus you can get a wireless controller for it.

The think to know about winches: The rated line of pull is on the first line closest to the drum, usually after pulling 90-100 feet of cable An 8-9000 pound winch is all you need for a Jeep, even the 4 door. You need more then a winch for recovery: anchor points on vehicle, tree savers, extra straps, snatch blocks, gloves, weighted blankets to place on the cable,
For the majority of people, the Smitthbilt winch would be fine. Most people don't use there winch more then a few times a year, and at that they aren't doing full line pulls causing the winch motor to heat up. Warn has an off brand, Enco comes to mind but may be wrong, look at them for saving money. Winches are HEAVY, with cable and mounts are typically around of over 100 pounds. Buy synthetic rope instead of cable if your budget allows.

Synthetic is a definite advantage but mainly in safety. The weight factor is there as well but it's not a massive savings, around 20lbs on a 8klb winch.
Synthetic vs steel is more than just weight though. If you actually use a winch a lot in recovery situations then think about what the cable does. If you have to have it up against rocks, the ground, or trees, then synthetic will wear faster. Also synthetic line is recommended to be replaced every year. That's an expensive yearly hit.
I considered synthetic but went steel on my Warn because we use the hell out of winches in unfriendly recovery situations and I need the durability.
I spent the extra for Warn because it has a higher load rating that the smitty throughout by a large margin and I wanted the wireless remote that Warn has.

Thanks for the all yall's info!!!
I was looking at the least the 9000 pound pull. I don't really plan on doing any serious winching but if I do I would like the reliability that I know its there if I need it!
The Synthetic or steel was something I have not thought about but if they recommended to be replaced every year on the synthetic I will go with steel.
The winch I have my eye on is the ZEON line in 10000 pull or the 9500cti, yes I know more than I would need but my thinking is it will pull me out of anything with ease
Again thank for all yall's info!

Make sure you understand the amps required to pull whatever the weight is you expect to need. Many vehicles have electric winches which will require more amps than the average charging system can put out. In other words, you'll never see a max line pull ability.

I have winches on 5 of my trucks, all are warn, with a 16,500TI on my 1 ton megacab cummins on 38" tires. I have needed all she had and even had to snatch block a few extractions.
I do have 2 Smittybuilt 12,000 lbs winches on a couple of my other ones and have had one problem that was warrantied out. Warns have been tough as hell, service them after you get them muddy and they will last a lifetime. I still have a 8000lb that was TXKILLER's years ago off his old jeep.
Get as large as you can afford and power properly, there WILL come a time you or someone else will need it.

Synthetic does NOT have to be replaced every year. Synthetic ropes will last you just as long as long as you take care of them. Wire cables just sitting are more susceptible to rusting and "fraying" over synthetic ropes. Moisture builds up in between the wires and will cause the wire to become weak and rust over time. Synthetic rope is the way to go in my opinion. It's safer to use, lighter, can be repaired in the field. Also, if you are needing an 8k, get a 9k. Get a winch just a little bigger than you need if you plan on using it. The extra will come in handy!! Just don't go way overboard. I have a 8k on my 4 dr Jeep and wish i woulda went bigger. Prob gonna switch out to my 12k i have on my F-250 and put a 15k on it. We use the winches offroading and get in some tight situations and my 8k has 'struggled' a few times.

I'm just quoting warn where they recommend replacement of synthetic line every 12 months.

Thanks for all your input! It was a big help!
I went with the ZEON 10000 with wire! More than enough winch I think!
Thanks again!
