I got an invite to a ranch near Victoria Texas that is supposed to have plenty of birds. My Dilemma is this, SNAKES!!!

I have a young (almost 2) Brittany that has not had snake vaccines nor snake avoidance training. I have scheduled him for snake avoidance but will not happen till March.

What are you thoughts on snakes in that area?

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

The snake vaccine is available all year long, at the vets that carry it.
What are the people on the ranch telling you about the snake population?
I run my dogs regularly about 50 miles from Victoria, and never had a problem. Plenty of people run dogs in areas known to have snakes during cold weather.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

X2

We're about 25 miles from Victoria, for about 7 years, never seen one in person, but they're definitely there.

I've hunted wild bobwhite quail in Texas for over 50 years and have done either. Victoria is not known for snakes. It's good quail country this year. How many acres do you have available to hunt?

I hunt 10 miles north of victoria. Snakes have never been a real issue. I mean they are there, but I wouldn't-not hunt because of that.

Been a few years since I have killed anything other than a cotton mouth. And I have yet to kill a rattler.

Where are you hunting?

Don't want to hijack, are those places you hunt around Victoria on friends land? Or friends of friends?
If you answer please do it in a PM
Thanks

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Leo Wielder was on the upland forum a few weeks ago looking for guides with dogs for a hunt on family land. Another guide replied that he was booked and they had great quail numbers south of Victoria.
