I'm in the process of building 3 new corn feeders. I've got 55 gallon galvanized steel barrels, texas hunter products feeder leg brackets, and I need to buy legs. What do you guys have for your feeder legs? I'm leaning towards 7' by 1-5/8" 16 gauge galvanized steel line posts from home depot. Any suggestions and tips would be great. I'm looking to spend around $100 for all 9 legs.
Thanks guys!

Either listed above will work fine. I would suggest making feet so the legs dont sink in the soil. If you get galvanized polls do NOT weld on them without proper precautions.

Our legs are 14' to keep the cows off the feeders and 2" inside... Galv. or steel works for a long time...

If you bend the pipe about a foot from the end and at about a 20 degree angle, you won't need a plate or "feeder feet". the feeder still remains stable and does not sink into the ground.

I have been using the moultrie leg brackets for $17 at Academy and then use 1.5" electrical pipe from home depot. You can also use 2" pipe and will get a little wider stance.

If you use EMT without a pen, the cows will bend the legs and she is coming down (voice of bad experience).

If you dont want to put leg bases, you can drive some stakes made of 3' rebar in the ground where it makes a x with very bottom of the feeder leg, then i install muffler clamps of the correct size to secure them together. I tried heater hose clamps, but i just couldnt get them very tight without stripping them. Hogs and cows cannot move the legs at all after securing with muffler clamps and we have very lose sandy soil where we hunt. http://www.delcity.net/store/Saddle-Clamps/p_798733. Link here is just to get a idea, i got them at my local co-op store. Im sure you can get them cheaper if you search online.

Make sure the legs meet the feeder more than halfway up the barrel... you wont ever have to steak it down... never had this one tumped over

Great ideas guys! Ended up going with 10ft sections of 1-1/4" EMT Galvanized Steel. Gonna drive rebar stakes and wire them to the legs. All the feeders will be inside pens, but better safe than sorry!

No need to tie the rebar to the legs. Simply drive the rebar inot the ground at the same angles as the legs, leaving about 3 feet of rebar above ground. Simply slip each leg over the rebar. The only way for the feeder to move is for it to be lifted 3 ft straight up.
