Simple question, what caliber makes the best SBR. I intend to build a DD MK18, but want to know if there is a better SBR caliber. If you were only going to build one, which one would it be?

I believe both the 6.8SPCII and 300BLK were made for SBR's. Therefore you would probably get the best performance out of those 2 calibers in a SBR, but for me I don't want to pay $1+ per round for a fun gun. I went with 223/5.56. Maybe in the future I'll do a 7.62x39 SBR upper.

5.56 doesn't like SBRs without some tuning. I went 8.2" 300blk and love it.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I've got the DD MK18, have even shot it yet. Waiting to put a 1-4 scope on when I decide what I want.
I do know where a DD MK18 10.3" barrel is if you are interested. I have t made up my mind if I want to buy it yet. It's brand new, zero rounds through it.

An individual is selling it on another forum I'm a part of, he wants $250. He's also trying to move a CMMG 8.5" .300acc blk 1/8 barrel for $200.
DD has that 10.3" barrel in stock at the moment (I just added it to a cart to make sure). $279

The gas port size is different for a 11.5" vs 16" even though it's in the same location. You will have to slowing drill out the gas port to get the gun to run reliable without over gasing it.

This. The gas ports are different sizes. Its an easy and cheap job to fix, but will need to be done most of the time. 5.56 doesn't like SBRs without some tuning. I went 8.2" 300blk and love it. Dont short barrels come pre drilled with the correct size hole? Kinda seems like they would. Or am I missing something here? Are you cutting down a 16" barrel?
Ah. Nevermind. missed the post about having it cut down
