Hey guys, any thought as to when the bucks will drop their head gear?

If I put my wife in a high fence will her rack get bigger?

I was at Fossil Rim last weekend and all of the bucks still had antlers.

Every deer is different, but I would think that most have dropped by tax day in April.

Heck, I saw one the other day that already has velvet nubs. Just my personal observation from the place I hunt is that the larger the rack, the quicker they drop. And they are quicker/faster to start to grow new antlers.

Last year, I had bucks in late April that already had significant velvet growth standing next to spikes/forks that were still hard-horned.

I can already peg candidates for harvest in June because it always seems that bucks in May/June that have significant antler development end up being the largest racks come season. While the ones who have just nubs, even though they may be very thick - never seem to put on enough by rub-out.

I had deer last year on cam that were putting on 2-3" per week in June. Awesome to watch and track on cam.

It will depend on where you are at in Texas. South Texas bucks do not start to mid March at the earliest with most dropping after the 1st of April. Hill Country will be from early March with most in mid to late March.

Weather seems to have more to do with it than I have ever read. I have seen bucks with antlers as late as April 22.
