Well.....I finally broke in my Marlin Model 1895 CB .45-70 this evening! I got this old doe at 5:30 p.m. I aged her at 7 years old, judging by her tooth wear. She's the biggest doe I've personally ever shot or seen up close. She's around 150 lbs. and I think she was a pretty good doe to take out of the herd. Here are a couple pictures. The bullet hole you can see in the picture is the entry wound. I shot her quartering away at about 40 yards and the bullet exited through the center of her right shoulder. I was using 325 gr. Hornady LeverEvolution ammo. She ran about 50 yards and there was a nice blood trail to follow. I hope y'all enjoy the pictures.

I paid $600 for it new. I absolutely LOVE it!! I bought it a year and a half ago (summer 2007) and this was the first thing I've killed with it. I'm using the LeverEvolution ammo, mainly due to them being easy to find, but they also seem to be faily accurate. I'm not an expert at shooting open sights by any means. It's sighted in for 100 yards, but I actually shot it at 50 yards and just sighted it so it would hit a couple inches high. I was shooting about a 1"-1.5" group at 50 yards. Then I shot it at 100 yards and it was getting about a 3"-3.5" group, but I think that mostly due to my inexperience shooting open sights. This is the first large caliber rifle I've ever owned without a scope.....and the first large game animal I've ever killed with open sights as well. I was very happy with the results. I would highly recommend this rifle to anyone. I've also got a Limbsaver recoil pad on it, which lengthens the stock to fit my long monkey arms perfect . It will hold 9 rounds in the mag, but I only put 5 in when I'm hunting. With 5 rounds it balances like a dream!!

well thats cheaper than i thought they were. i havent seriously looked yet. i almost let a few people talk me out of it, thats too old of a caliber or it doesnt have anough velocity. people forget that the cowboys used these on the open range a hundred years ago and killed buffalo with them. i dont have monkey arms so i think ill be fine with the pad it has on it. did you buy it there in montgomery or did you go somewhere else. the cabelas and sportsmans warehouse here act like they dont know what the hell it is..

Well see that's the thing.....it doesn't come with a pad on it. It just has a butt plate. That's why I put the Limbsaver on it.
I bought the gun at Tomball Pawn. They are dealers for all sorts of new guns, as well as used guns. They always have really good prices.
