Hey guys- I bought the wildlife technologies kill light (XLR250) and gun mounted it. Last weekend was a full moon so after a decent amount of hiking we saw a group of pigs at a feeder. we got in the prone position and turned on the green light and within about a second they all vanished, we ended up scaring them away. What did we do wrong? I read several posts and articles indicating red and green lights should not scare hogs away.
Thoughts? advice?

how much pressure do those hogs get in terms of hunting? it seems like really nervous hogs will spook on a grasshopper fart.

Try aiming the light high at first and then slowly bringing it down onto the pigs. Don't just blast them right away.
A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.

I have 2 green lights and a red. The last two seasons every time I bowhunt I experiment with them after its dark and I'm about to get out of the stand. Deer and pigs will usually spook if you turn on a green light and shine it directly at them. Deer especially will look right at the light the second I turn it on. I can turn the red light on and flash it and wave it around at them for 10 mins and they never even look up. That being the case I still use the green on hogs because it lights them up so much better.

So it sounds like red in general may have been a better option- and with the green light I should bring the light down slowly as opposed to simply aiming it at them. I wonder if since i was in the prone position as opposed to in a stand the additional illumination of the ground spooked them.

If you hunt hogs in area where they are highly pressured no matter what light color you use they will be on hight alert and take off before you get a shot. Now if you have a feeder light then that's different bc they will be used to the light. And if you stalk a hog where they are not pressured say their bedding area, the hogs will be more relaxed and less worry about anything around them. Also what I suggest is always aim up and come slowly down or aim low and slowly go up. Don't hit them directly in the face with them. And if you see your hogs only at night it's because they are high pressured if you see them during the day at the feeder they are not highly pressured. I've shined my lights directly at them and only scared one boar once the others stayed around until I shot. Also how big is you hunting land?

I am not sure about the nearby or the previous lease tenants before me. It is a potential they were hunted decently hard. I guess that means we will have to get creative.

The green lights on top my scope worked for about 20 killings, then they got spooked. I know use cheap walmart solar landscape lights on the feeder legs. About 4 to 8 light up enough to see the hogs at 50 yards. They really light up in my scope. You can get the lights on clearance for about $1 a piece. A very good investment!

If you want to get hogs to your feeder you need to have corn or anything they can eat. Try to rub red diesel on a tree base they freaking like that a lot

It's my experience in East Tx the hogs I've seen run from a green light were not pressured and had not been hunted at all. They come out at night, and various times of the day based on game cam. No pattern and no pressure. There were no feeder lights so these pigs likely had not seen any lights but were sensitive to them.
