I got to get out and do a little hunting at the in-laws last night. It was a pretty exciting hunt for me. Earlier in the day while scouting a new property I had found a well used hog trail.


So at sundown I headed to set up on the trail and catch the hogs in the open. I was about 5 minutes too late. When I arrived a sounder of about 20 had just crossed the open field and were headed into the thick woods. I knew the trail came out into another open pasture farther down so I headed off to intercept them there. Again it was to late and they were at the other end of the pasture.

After following them for about an hour I could never get closer than 100 yards. The alpha sow would never stop more than a few minutes even at the pig pipes. She also always stayed at the edge of pastures never getting more than a few yards from cover. Finally we had made a big circle and were back in the pasture with the pig pipe and where I had parked my truck. She was making her way to the pip when she alerted turned and stopped one last time to look back.


It was over a hundred yard shot but I figured she was about to bolt. She went down DRT and I killed the lookout or sentry hog also so the rest of the sounder should be easy pickings now. She measured 51" heart girth for 310 pounds my second largest hog ever and only the third over 300 pounds. She had also been shot in the neck before another zombie hog dead.

with full moon can get pretty close ta em. in front of stand sat one night hogs were with-in 35yrds till wind shifted, next night walked right past one at bout 15yrds, whin realized thats a hog, it was close to the trail use ta walk down ta feeder & food plot. unfortunately was right after licence expired & before got chance ta get the new ones. need ta hit my crossbow & see if can get were can pull me bow back again, health problems, & mount my lazer on stabuliser hogs ya don't have ta have an archery stamp. Then again person who want's ta just put hog on table has to have hunting licence. Have ta call, check ta make sure its legal. good story

I use a 6.8 spc with 120 gr hornady sst bullets. The suppressor saves my ears, confuses the hogs on where the shots are coming from. No muzzle flash and a lot of times the impact of the bullet is louder than the shot. Next to night vision the suppressor is my all time favorite hunting tool.

seen it was updated, hadn't seen any new posts. was on a 4day3night hog hunt couple weeks ago, skunked, no one else been seeing any thing eather, used ta be good hunten. was thinken colder weather get em moving more. seen good sign their month earlier, but had ta get aways away from trails, so theirs some their. U still have luck, thats my story, lucky ta be at right place at right time, i'm postaddic i've been tested 2outa3 disagree, depends on witchdoctor ya talk too.
