Proposed New Wording by TPWD: 1st Reading
Means and Methods Firearms Game animals and game birds may be hunted with any legal firearm, EXCEPT:
white-tailed deer, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope may NOT be hunted with rimfire ammunition of any caliber, centerfire ammunition of calibers less that .270, and centerfire calibers exceeding .30 caliber or 3000 fps muzzle velocity.
The purpose of this regulatory change is to decrease the number of wounded animals from calibers insufficient for deer hunting, and reduce the risk of accidental injuries from calibers that have energy and velocity equivalent to or exceeding the sight distance mean for Texas Whitetail Habitat. However hunters in certain counties may use calibers smaller than .270 caliber if the deer is a spike deer as defined in TPWD Regs 2.3.A.5, and the county is an AR county without doe tags for the first week of the season. Youth hunters are only allowed to use 12 ga slugs, and must be 3 inch magnum slugs since they travel less distance than the 2.75 inch slugs. (Please note: Antler Restrictions are about horn hunters, about making money, having nothing to do with the health of the deer herd) These new restrictions do not apply to counties south of the Red River, or North of the Canadian River, nor any county numbered less than county numebr 276 in the list of Texas counties by aplhabetical listing (Fannin Co is 074) on the third Tuesday of October unless that Tuesday falls on the day after Columbus day.
Proposed this day 19 November 2008 in and of and for the Great State of Texas, be it known. (Apply SEAL Here)

You ought to be hunting me a 20 ga slug gun instead of sitting around getting snockered.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a TPWD rule that makes sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No need for those super high powered deer slayer 5000 guns to be out there in the first place!!
If you cant kill it with a .270, and think you need anything larger you shouldn't be in the woods hunting in the first place!!
I knew getting Obama in office was gonna change things for the better!!!!!

good old rocks
My Dad killed a deer once with a rock when I was about 14. He wouldn't let me shoot her cause the gunshot would scare other deer in the area.
