A spring off a trampoline will work. You can stretch it out if need be also.

We use the Screen door springs, 12" version. There about 4-5.00 ea and work very well.

If you are near a Tractor Supply store, they carry all sizes and shapes of springs. At least the stores around here do.

I used the springs made to hold the air lines up for a 18 wheeler you can buy them at Truck Pros for around $5 and they will last forever .

Do what I did and flip the trap a quarter turn and set it up with a trip wire in the rear. Just a few pulleys, a hook and some cable.
