I own one- I own DT 10 (8500 target gun Beretta) all kinds of high end OU, SxS , SBEii, browning a5, 3 391 gas and extrema II
Versamax out cycles them all- shot thousands of rounds thru them- mainly 3.5 and marage feather lite 7.5 loads - NEVER didn't cycle.
I also have 1187 jr model for kids
Not a Remington fan- but have owned and shot just about every auto on mkt- except for new a400-
WOULDNT TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING- AWESOME GUN.
Gone thru springs in berettas and jacked up Benellis. Not made to shoot 3.5.
This gun is amazing - and nearly zero recoil.
ITS NOT you cheap 1100 Remington gun. Solid.

There is no full VersaMax out there for $700 except the Sportsman edition. They take a few things off of it to make it cheaper. No different than Benelli with the Stoeger brand. The Stoeger 3500 is the same gun as the SBE II, but with some cheaper parts. The inertia bolt is the EXACT same. Or you can buy the 3000 that is only 3" just like the M2. Remington chose to offer a lower price model in its own brand while Benelli chose to do it in the Stoeger brand.
Again, I am just trying to help keep the facts straight. The B's and VersaMax are all good/great guns and will malfunction if not taken care of.
I hate my 3500, nothing but problems... just thought I'd share
Arise.Kill.Eat -Acts 10:13 I have read a bunch of stuff on the internet about Star Wars but that does not mean I can skin a deer with a light saber.

You can buy the same gun and have an issue with one perfection w other.
As far as price points - camo versamax vs Benelli and beretta a 400- all about 1200-1800 bucks I believe
I know the black plain vanilla versamax w limited chokes is 700-800
Which in my opinion is a steal. There is not a better cycling auto on market for 3.5 shells.
If you are going to shoot just 3 inch- get the beretta a300- old 391 model- come in camo.
I basically shoot a duck gun for 1-2 seasons and trade it.
PM me if you have any questions. I shoot shotguns 2-3x week all year.
Doesn't get better than that and they are cheap as hell- well under a 1000 bucks

I have heard quite a bit of good on them. I personally had never heard one for long until last week. Cabela's in Fort Worth got several Versamax demo guns and I looked them over pretty good. The balance was the only real issue I had with them. They looked and shouldered good for me, trigger was nice and these guns were dirty. I was impressed with how clean the action and gas system were compared to how filthy the barrel was. The forend moved a bit, no more than the Benelli or Browning guns they compete with. If i was in the market, I would probably buy one and I possibly will buy one just for giggles, they fit really well and seem like a solid platform.
There are extended reviews on Duck Hunting Chat and Shotgun World on the Versamax, look for TuJays on either forum, he has had one since they first came out.

Been shooting a VM since last spring. Have shot 1000's of rounds through mine & it has handled everything with no problems. Got the magazine cap issued fixed by Remington . The newer models have all the issues fixed that were plaguing some of the earliest guns out. I have shot all the B guns & it is as dependable as any of them & more so than a couple. VERY low recoil makes it a joy to shoot. I was leery of Remington too ,after seeing some of the issues with their guns recently ,but I believe they got this one right. Go to shotgunworld.com & go to the Remington forum. There is a great post on there about the VM.

This convinced me, I will be getting one to play with this summer.

I decided to buy a new gun at the beginning of the season and did alot of research. I looked at alot of guns. The only legitimate bad review was on the remington versamax. They had a big recall last year. Apparently it was fixed but I wasnt willing to chance it. I narrowed my search down to the usual suspects (benelli SBE, benelli super vinci, beretta A400, browning maxus). All guns were great and really it came down to which gun felt best in my hands, when I shouldered the gun, and personal preference.

This is the same response you get over and over from guys that actually have shot a VM more than a couple times. Then you got guys that have nothing to add to the thread but "3 B's, or Beretta and Beretta" guys that have never handled the gun let along shot it. I picked up a new VM this year love that I can put any shell I want in it and it cycles flawlessly. My buddies cant believe how light the recoil is on it, yea even my buddy that shoots the all might SBE2.

I'll take my "B gun" M2 over a stripped down Remington anyday ...... There is no full VersaMax out there for $700 except the Sportsman edition. They take a few things off of it to make it cheaper. I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Nothing wrong with a M2, but there is a downside.....just can't take 3.5" shells. I like being able to follow up my first two shots in 3" with a 3.5".
