I have a bunch of cows on my lease. Mostly they are not a problem - they do not seem to run off the deer. My problem is that I cannot keep them out of my feeder. Last weekend I put in 7 new 6 foot stakes. It looked good. I comeback an hour later and there was a damn cow in my feeder! I chased them out and she just jumped over bottom two wires and had knocked out the top wire.

Do I need to make it higher? What else can I do to keep them out?

I was thinking of bringing some hey when i hunt to keep them out of the area.

Any Ideas??

The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

We use general pen panel 36" tall.. keeps ours out. tractor supply sells it. GOOD LUCK.. once they find it they try really hard to get back in.

Had the same problem...battled them for years. Finally, just used some simple fence stays and haven't had a problem since. Keeps them from spreading the barbwire apart and crawling through. I felt really stupid after rebuilding pens 3 or 4 times and then a handful of cheap fence stays fixed my problem.

go with the cattle pannels & if they try to get over, put a line of hot wire across that

We have cattle on our place and we dont put up feeder pens. We just use the metal fence posts as legs, and a good sturdy varment cage. The cows come through sometimes and mess around but move on shortly. They cant pick the corn off the ground. Also a better chance of a good buck coming to the feeder if he doesnt have to jump a fence and feel closed in.

we usually put our feeders in betweena circle of trees and wrap goatwire around it. that seems to work the best in my exp.

Do you have trees near your feeder? When I hunted a place near Eden, I just strung a few strands of barbed wire around some nearby trees and made a feeder pen. It turned out to be pretty big but I think the cows recognize (even as stupid as they are) that barbed wire is a barrier. Never had any trouble after that.
