No am hesitant to spend the money on a fox pro caller. I usually use a old mouth call with little sucess. Although we have many dogs and end up shooting more by chance than calling. Do these high dollar electric calling devices work like on hunting shows. Turn it on and every dog in 13 counties come running. Please give me some input, why buy? Or what particular model and so forth.. Thanks in advance.

I have a foxpro fx32 bought it 2004/05 still works great after all these years. The first few years I had it the coyotes would race each other to the call. Now it still works just not as well, I think it's because everyone and their dog calls coyotes these days and they have been educated.

I have some other brand... foxs flock to mine and a few yotes.
I don't use it much but it worked best the first two weekends.

I'm liking mine so far. The thing is, there are so many different call sounds available that you can fight the "educated" problems with yotes. They also work great for crows, and I've seen posts about people calling coons and other animals.

I got a foxpro wildfire 2. I advise that you get the speaker, SP 55, it makes a world of difference in the volume. On a calm day the foxpro alone is fine but if it's very windy at all the distance that I personally can hear it is very diminished. The external speaker fixes that nicely.

Sounds like a location or set up issue to me, not a call issue. They are worth the money if you use em, if you call twice a year stick to mouth calls, if your out every weekend then buy it. One benefit is the coyote social calls, I doubt your gonna do those and know what they mean. Some folks can but average joe has no clue.

I like mine. I was surprised at how well it works. I think it needs to be a little louder on the breezy days though.

God is deep but he is not complicated.

It's not the particular call that educates them, it's the lack of care that the hunter makes - not working the wind, not getting into the setup quietly and concealing. A lot of people think they can drive into a field and crank the volume on the caller and shoot from the pickup seat. All that does is have the animal associate the two and steer clear. And, just because you see a lot of kills on a hunting show doesn't mean they actually get something all the time, they just hunt a lot and don't show all the times they miss.

That is exactly right!

As for the "fox pro" itself, they work great. Just remember that there are now many alternatives out there. Fox Pro has done an excellent job marketing but they are by no means your only remote caller option. Anything that that has quality sound that can be operated from a distance will work. I can't believe these things are still hundreds of dollars each. A little more competition and fox pro's will be selling for under $100.

Do you guys just leave the sound running for 20 min at a time (or however long you sit on a setup) or do you stop and start the sound at different time intervals?

I have a nine year old nephew I will sell you cheaper than a FoxPro lol. He is all about calling using mouth calls and practices constantly. He tells me he's better than the electric calls.

I have the Wildfire. It works pretty well. Called in several foxes quickly with it. Not had a chance to try it on coyotes yet though..

I've been using a Fox Pro for years and have had some very good success with it. But Hooper21 nailed it when he talked about the hunter and the set-up.

Have you ever heard an injured rabbit or fawn scream for 20 straight minutes? You're using an electronic recording to try to mimic nature so a predator thinks they can get an easy meal from a wounded/dying animal.

I think a lot of people call too loudly. They go to a spot where they think, or know that coyotes live. Turn the volume up all the way, or blow as hard as they can. The varmints that are bedded or walking close by, that you didn't scare away walking/driving in, will probably run. I start 90% of my stands with squeaks for 30 seconds or just one "whaaa" with my mouth.

Also, calling loudly brings in animals from much further than you probably want on the average place in Texas. The longer the trip to find you, the more willing they are to take the extra time to walk down wind of you.

If you can make 6 stands on a place where your call reaches 200 yards out, instead of 2 stands that reach 600 yards out, your sightings per stand will go down, but your kill rate will go up. With unlimited property turn the volume as loud as you can, but with a set amount of land you're better off keeping the distance your sound travels much shorter.

Think of it like this:
You're poor and starving, sitting down, and someone yells "There's a $100 bill on the ground if someone wants it! But if I see who takes it you will get shot!". There's thousands of people walking around, but it's right next to you. You could grab it now! What do you do? You take it, and that's that. You don't have to think twice.. It's right there, you grab it, and no one ever knows it happened. There's no risk.
Now, this time, you're sitting down in a crowd of 1,000 people and someone yells "There's a $100 bill on the ground if someone wants it! But if I see who takes it you will get shot!" However, this time it's 400 yards away. You see it! It's right there! But let's think for a second... What are our options? 1. Sprint fast as hell, grab the money, run, and pray to God you're from the matrix. Or 2. Get-up, walk around a little, and creep up accessing the situation more and more as you get closer and closer.

Point: If you can do something with little effort and get a fantastic result then you do it. If you have to do something with a lot of effort, then normally you take the time to make a plan. And normally that plan for a coyote will be to get down-wind.

P.S. Is anyone hiring someone who makes stupid hunting analogies?
