I had coyotes come up in my yard last year. they try to attack (or mate?) with our female dog that is outside. this only happens in the winter. they are back again this year. now the one I saw the other day was definitely a coyote...looked more like a coyote anyways. it was dark outside and they always get out of there fast when I get out there.

I got a pic of one. I have had people tell me for sure its a coyote and some say they are not sure. is there a tell tail sign to tell a coyote from a wild or stray dog?

THIS IS NOT ONE OF THE YOTES I HAVE SEEN BEFORE... OUR DOG IS JUST A MUTT, BUT NICE AS CAN BE SO WE KEEP HER AROUND....

THIS THING WOULD NOT LET ME GET CLOSE TO IT....IT GOT CAUGHT IN A SPRING FOOT TRAP(NOT SURE WHERE THE TRAP CAME FROM, THE CITY SAID THEY COULD NOT PUT OUT TRAPS FOR SOME REASON) ...I WAS GOING TO TRY TO HELP THE GUY OUT...BUT I COULDNT SEE A COLAR OF ANY KIND, AND REALLY DIDNT WANT TO GET BIT... HE WASNT FREINDLY AT ALL... HE WAS OUT IN THE FIELD, WOKE ME UP WITH ALL HIS HOWLING. BUT HE ENDED UP JUST TAKING OFF.

That's gotta be a dog. I've known a husky-mix that got a serious case of wanderlust every time the temperature dropped and would climb a 6' fence and be gone for a few days before returning covered in filth and smelling like a dead water buffalo. That dog wasn't friendly to anyone except the woman that adopted him.

Could also be akita... Maybe shiba inu. Dunno.

Plus 1, got one that hangs around the house occasionally...neighbors dog, not up to anything bad, so it gets a pass.

Not really big enough for an Akita...judging by the age structure..plus the face markings rule it out, IMO.

MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING I AM MISSING SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN TELL FOR SURE BY LOOKING AT IT , YEAH THATS A YOTE OR NO THATS NOT CAUSE IT HAS "SUCH AND SUCH" OR IT DOESNT HAVE "SUCH AND SUCH" I GOOGLED PICS OF COYOTES AND THERE ARE ALOT OF DIFFERNT LOOKING COYOTES.

THANKS FOR EVERBODYS HELP

Malamute, look at the width of the ears where they connect to the head, relative to their length.
Short and stubby, versus long and skinny.
