First thing Sunday morning a single mallard came in to the dekes and I dropped him on the first shot. I waited a bit before going to retrieve him since it was just after shooting light and to my surprise he was no where to be found . I figured he dove and hung himself up in the weeds. After I killed a couple of Woodies and royaly screwed up a chance at some gadwalls I decided to row up the creek further since the water was up and see if there were any holes holding birds. On my way back out mother nature hit and said you better get your toilet paper and find some dry land. I beached the pigroue, walked into the woods about 20 yards and 5 feet from me was a mallard just looking at me. Come to find out that duck dove swam to the bank and had worked his way about 200 yards across the island. Im glad I answered mothers natures call. I think I might mount and call him "Deuce"

Here's "Deuce" and the Woodies

hehe. I shot one on sunday out at my buddies lease. He was wounded, but i was able to track him down. I rung his neck and thought he was done. As I was walking back to the blind I had 2 more fly over. I dropped him in the water, went to shoot but my safety was on. I looked down and he had taken off again and was about 20 yds. from me. I chased him for a good 30 mins. in the dark(it was an evening hunt) did 2 face plants in the water while trying to do a full sprint with waders on in knee deep water. I ended up losing him. But on Monday we went back to pick up the dekes, and I told my buddy to be looking for him. Sure enough my buddy saw him swimming across the pond, but couldn't ever get quite close enough. He broke off a tree limb and whacked him on the head 1 good time. It was quite an adventure for us and that duck.

Ed, you know my dog is only 6 months old. I didn't take her that afternoon. She was pretty wore out from running around all weekend, and playing with my buddy's 4 mo old chessy.

Yeah, I know. I was teasing you but that was probably going to come up from someone who didn't know you had a dog.

Great story

My success in life is measured by the number of hunting
and fishing stories that my kids can share with others...

Did you happen to bump into GR?

Nice story! I would certainly trade my greys for some ducks like that.

That is a crazy story…and no Gary, I have nothing to do with this gentleman’s lack of bowel control, I have enough trouble keeping up with my own, much less someone else

Last year we were hunting on the dam side of a tank, this dam was covered in pretty thick brush so we we ust sat on the ground back in the brush. My Buddy Gene (for Gary: douche la douche) shot a bird, went and grabbed it and came back to his spot. Next thing I see out of the corner of my eye is Gene throwing his shotgun down and making a head dive at the edge of the water to tackle a running duck. The duck appeared to be dead as could be, but came to life from genes gentle touch I guess.

I can't help but crack a smile when I think of Rusty and Douche Le Douche. My son was joking at the dinner table about those guys the other night, I said, "Boy where did you hear that from?", while quickly changing the topic. Hey GR, TexasEd and Marcstar, we are gonna have to get together and do some hunting. Any ideas? I promise to keep James in Austin.
