Anybody know of a some good rabbit spots? Haven't had much luck seeing deer or hogs on public land, but want to try walking up some early morning rabbits.

I shot three rabbits today at James Daughtrey outside Three Rivers, adding to the one I shot last weekend. I'm going to have to come up with some rabbit recipes besides jambalaya ...

I had no luck with deer or hogs this year. Rabbits seem like easier game-I could get em in my yard msot nights of the week.

I think I'll take a walk with the shotgun and pocket some slugs just in case I get in front of something bigger than a rabbit. I have a minature beagle but I think she would lay down once the gun goes off.

WMAs have their own rules and restrictions that go further than general Texas regs. Some have rabbit seasons and almost all have firearm restrictions (shotgun only, no larger than 4 shot)

I shot a Jack Rabbit in Groesbeck after an awful dove hunt in October. Actually my buddy and I shot 2. I got another Jack at Elephant Mountain last week (12/31) hunting Quail and Dove. I followed this recipe with one modification. I cut a Habanero in half and let it cook in the broth with the meat. It was excellent. Also, I soaked the rabbit in saltwater in the fridge over-night. Jack is bigger than what she calls for, so I upped the ingredients a little. All the kids and wife ate it with seconds after swearing it off when I brought the rabbits home.

For pure pleasure, I'd rather hunt rabbit and squirrel than deer or hogs. I have many fond memories of rabbit hunts.

back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf

Same here. Was driving around Ray Bob last week and couldn't drive too fast for all of the rabbits crossing the road. Pm me if you want location.

Eta. Nothing like a pack hot on bugg's trail.

For my money, I prefer hogs…they have bigger profiles and smaller eyes! Maybe if I was a better shot...
