I have a Remington 700, calibered in .22-250. It has an 8 digit serial number on the left side of the barrel. I have been toying with the idea of getting a synthetic stock for it, in a camo color since I mostly use it for varmit and predator hunting. But I want to make sure to get a replacement stock that will fit my action. Does anyone know how to tell the exact model of the 700 by the serial number? I have been on the website and looked around, but haven't had any success. If it will help, I can post pictures of the gun.
Thanks guys,
-Drew

The action, long or short and barrel type/size are the primary questions. ADL means it has no floorplate in the stock so if you buy a BDL you will need the floorplate or a removable mag kit.
Boyd's and Stocky's are 2 good places to start. Most sites will ask for the information they need to fit your model correctly.

Could anyone help me out on the "barrel type"? On Stocky's, it asks if the barrel is a Factory Sporter Barrel, Heavy Varmint Barrel, M24/Military Barrel, or Mountain Rifle Barrel. I'm guessing its just a Factory Sporter Barrel. Any suggestions and/or help will be much appreciated!

That looks like BDL and factory sporter barrel, some of the varmints may work but they will have more free space around barrel. What is your budget and what are you looking for? Take a look at the Bell and Carlson Hook, good for the money for a short action, but the channel is little big.

I don't really have a set budget at the moment, I'm still in the beginning stages of looking I guess. From everything I've seen so far, I'm looking for some type of camo synthetic stock to blend into south texas brush/grass. I'm open to all different stock styles, and any suggestions would be great. I mostly use it for coyote hunting and shooting does on some management ranches. I'm take all the advice I can get! But I do not want to get any stock that will disrupt the accuracy of the rifle.

As long as its floated and bedded you will be good to go, You are going to find that stocks can range from 199- thousands, just depends on what you are looking for. Stockies is a good place to start

I'm in Conroe currently, does anyone know of a good gun shop or gunsmith with a selection of stocks in the Houston? I also travel to the San Antonio often. I'll check out Stocky's and Boyd's in the meantime. Thanks HorizonFirearms

Looks def like a BDL. Sporter/short action. Tons of options. Look at HS Precison, Bell and Carlson and Macmillans webistes. Give you some ideas anyway.

But I don't deal with gunsmiths. I'd think there are probably takeoff stocks but who knows what you'll end up with or selection. Someone changed for a reason and upgraded. I have a takeoff from a SPS Varmint 700 BDL but it's really cheap and flimsy plus it fits a varmint .9" barrel. Online orders typically ship and arrive within a week and offer expedited delivery. So you get what you want. You may find something used but likely take longer to find it than picking something out on line and having it shipped.

I can recommend HS Precision as a good stock maker for a modest price. I have one of their stocks on a model 700 and have been pleased.
