I had the opportunity to take my Father on a guided duck hunt this past weekend. Thanks to Erik and Bullzeye Outfitters for providing this Wounded Warrior the chance to repay his father for decades of great duck hunting.

After growing up public hunting in North and East Texas for over 50 years and me following his footsteps for the past 30 years, it is not hard to believe that this is our first guided hunt. We have been able to find hunting grounds without a lot of pressure up until the past decade or so. So this was my gift to him.

The weather conditions provided some not so great bird action but our guide Justin made up for it. He was able to put us on a few ducks and got some Canadians to drop in on us. Just about everything that came in got put on the water. If there had been more birds, no doubt it would have been a 3 man limit.

All in all it was a great time. This was my wife's first year of hunting and she was able to get her a cackler! Dad had fun watching his kids and telling young Justin all the stories about growing up in the 50's, 60's and 70's duck hunting where Justin grew up in the 90's.

It is sad to see that all the good duck hunting is leaving the public areas that my Dad and I grew up hunting. But thanks to the hard work of the outfitters and their work with the land owners, there is still good hunting out there. I may be forced into 2-3 great hunts a year soon, but at least I won't be forced into no hunting thanks to all of the hard work from ALL of the Outfitters.
