sounds like you need to get your coyote situation under control before you do anything else.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yes you are too cheap. Mine is a diff reason tho. I wouldn't clean a doe for 100 bucks. I typically give my does to buck hunters.
It's all good tho, whatever gets it done is fine with me.

Believe me I am trying. As soon as this deer season is over I can get in the neighbors where I believe they are staying and work on them.

Don't change Don. The Hunting landscape if full of Outfitters who will hold the Hunters hand and pamper them from start to finish, from the hunt, to meals, to lodging, butchering, caping, etc. This is great for some and I know the Outfitters work their tails off for their customers, not knocking them.
But, alot of Hunters without family land or a lease just want a place where they can hunt on their own, take care of themselves, and not spend a fortune to put some meat in the freezer. Yours is a perfect example of that. Yours is also great for a Father who is looking to get his kid on a buck without dropping a couple grand.
You could probably raise your doe prices a little and still have good traffic, especially if you offer up the cabin to stay in. But, I think your buck pricing is pretty spot-on. I am guessing if your place was more widely advertised you'd sell out pretty quick. If you want more business next year I can push a few guys your way.

Thanks TxAg, On this forum is the only place I try to get hunters. I never know from year to year what I need taken. I can't book very far in advance especially Does because sometimes a person comes for one and ends up with 3. I was really wondering if those that charge considerably more from them get as many taken at that price as they want.

I'll be watching to see what you have to offer next season. The place my son and I have been going to hunt does the past 3 years will be off limits beginning this year due to it going to high $$ membership only. The drive might be a little far from the Metroplex but for $100 per doe, that's still a great deal and my son loves the opportunity to shoot. Hope to get my daughter (turning 14 this month) an opportunity next, deer or hog.

At the risk of having his doe and buck hunt's taken next year, Don's place is great! I enjoyed talking with him and seeing the ranch as much as I enjoyed the hunt. Seems like the lease and day hunt prices near San Antonio have gone up over the past few years. Some said it was due to the oil and gas boom. It's difficult to find a reasonably priced day hunt from as fair, honest, and personable gentlemen as Don.

It's just easier for me to justify dressing a $3500 buck than 3 $100 does. And it's easier for me to justify dirty hands and work when it's for a $200 doe than a $100 doe. Not dissing you at all. I think it's great that there are different options for different hunters. And what you're doing for them is awesome. You're the one who asked if you were too cheap. I just gave you my honest opinion based on my preferences.

I know people who do. I put together hunts. I coordinate hunts. I've guided hunters. Bet you didn't do that in freshman year.

I just gave you my honest opinion based on my preferences. What I am asking and still have not gotten an answer is do those that charge from 3 to 4 hundred for Does get the amount of Does taken that the place wants taken. The main reason I don't charge a lot is that the hunter does not expect a lot. I don't charge a guide or trespass fee because then if they don't get something there is nothing to gripe about. I don't charge to stay in my cabin because then they can't say it cost to much for what it is. I don't charge to clean their deer because then they can't say I did a crappy job for what it cost. If I did this for a living it would probably be a different story. What I loose on each animal I make up in volume. All kidding aside I probably make bottom line dollar as much in the long run as some higher priced outfits because I don't have the overhead. I am the only employee of this place.

Ok then.
So what you're saying (if I understand) is that if someone comes out and doesn't kill a doe, they walk away free of charge?
Absolutely would not do that myself. Because what I provide costs ME over $300.
To answer your question. I have always gotten the exact amount of does shot that I want to shoot. Typically they are free add ons to trophy hunts, or animals I let friends shoot for free.

So what you are saying is that you don't charge for does. You give them away. That is even better than what I do. And yes if they don't get a doe they don't owe anything. I might even pay for their gas if I like them.

I was really wondering if those that charge considerably more from them get as many taken at that price as they want. You may have answered your own question and not realized it Don. We started doe hunts a few yrs ago. We that said though we know how many need to be harvested, prior to the season start. We run one and if needed two groups of doe only hunts, and we are done. At the set doe hunt price each hunter is allowed 2 does plus lodging for two nights. We have on site lodging which makes it convienant and the group gets to BS etc around a fire. Some guys this is part of the whole expierence. I can say without a doubt we have run 100 percent on every group we have had. I'm not telling you how to run your business but this has worked very well for us. Matter of fact the last two prior doe hunts were taken by a THF group and all out of the metro plex area. We set the date, get our guides in order for the hunt and hunt and roll. Every now and then I get on the grill, for the most part these guys just want a fun hunt with lots of animals and a shot opportunity. Best of luck and if I can help you , please don't hesitate to let me know. Roy

I don't know about it from your side of the business to weigh in on it from that perspective. I've got a different point of view and wish I had seen/found out that you had $100 doe hunts. I just started hunting again last year. Hadn't hunted since 1985 or so back in FL and never took a deer back then. Now have the bug but need to learn more on a limited budget. I'd take a $100/doe hunt for a number of reasons, 1. learn to hunt here - shot placement, etc. 2. learn how to process the animal, 3. be able to take my son if the timing works (he is off in college now). I could do those things at your price but I get the feeling I'm not the norm here on the site.
I'd love to know how to find out when/if you offer up hunts next season.
Bob

Keep doing what your doing don. I started does at the ranch at $150 and went up to $200. But in your case keep selling them for $100. You will get a lot of business no matter what. I know where you stand about doing the little things because I am the same way and we both bend out backs over for our hunters. I don't know if this happened to you this year like me but I had some people that I went all day for them and got them on there deer and did everything for them which means cleaning the deer taking then to the blind guiding them and entertaining them and I received no gratuity! I am not the owner of the ranch so the money they pay for the deer is for the ranch owner They don't understand that some guides live off of tips and when they don't tip then that means I go home with my pockets empty. Some people don't understand that the majority of guides live off of tips
