Season is coming to a close this Sunday and then a two week doe/spike season. Wanted to ask and get opinions on year round feeding. I usually start feeding in late July and stop feeding when my feeders run out after doe/spike season. Are there benefits to continue with the corn year round?

I feed year round and the biggest benefit I see is that I keep the same core group of deer coming back year round especially the does. We all know where the does are the bucks will eventually follow at the right time of year.

I feed year 'round. Keeps the does happy and in the area and the wildlife somewhat used to activity. Just me, though.

Ive done year round feeding on my 90 acre place and the results are mixed. It does keep deer coming to my place year round but once the neighbors start up feeders in September, the deer go to them if they are closer. There is some advantage to a consistent food source and I do have a couple of decent bucks that show up irregularly to my feeder. My belief is that they were born to one of the does in my resident group and they come back from time to time because they know food is always available.
I feed a corn soybean mix to add a little additional nutrition but it's probably not enough to be real beneficial.
Free will protein raised my buck population significantly, but I just cant afford it anymore.

We feed year round. I believe it helps keep the deer around and helps them out in our sometimes dry summers.
The property we used to lease was a little over 700 acres. Some of the family hunted and they only fed a little before the season to the end of season, we fed year round. We averaged seeing 10-15 deer a sit with 20-30 at once as nothing out of the ordinary. The family who only fed during the season would usually see less than 10 a sit and usually 3-5 deer.
We like it and will continue to do it, but I also believe it will screw up your densities if your neighbors aren't doing the same and shooting accordingly for population.

Thanks for all the feedback and believe I will feed year round. Do you cut back the amount during non hunting months or throw the same? I sling feed twice a day and three seconds each. Should I continue this or cut back?

I feed out of a spin feed corn year round along with free choice protein feeders. I only would feed if you have a feed pen. I do cut the corn amount back since I want them eating protein.

Do I need a protein feeder for the protein? Believe the corn feeders I have won't allow protein to go through.

We feed year round. We kill hogs when deer aren't in season.

Do I need a protein feeder for the protein? Believe the corn feeders I have won't allow protein to go through. I would recommend feeding it through a gravity type feeder. Also like ranchman said hogs can be bad on year round feeding if you don't fence the feeders. We have a couple fences coming for next year I believe.

I have 4 corn feeders that go off 2 times a day. After doe and spike season i turn each one to only go off 1 time a day. Then we start pouring on the protein until about August. Then we turn all 4 corn feeders back to 2 times a day..

Feeding year round will make the deer use you set as part of their core area if you have sufficient acreage and cover along with water.

I do have my feeder fenced in to keep pigs out and I have a water source as well. Think I will make my fence a little bigger to accommodate another feeder (protein) for year round feeding. Thanks for all the info. Appreciate the help.

We pull livestock out of the pastures we hunt from Sept.1 to after doe and spike/late youth season. We run 8 spin feeders without pens and feed about 500lbs of corn a week. Feeders then come down and pastures are grazed with livestock the remainder of the year.
