You really don't know what you are talking about. It happened about 6 PM. A few minutes after legal shooting hours. He was walking to his truck just like we all do at the end of the day. The shooter wasn't a poacher or even on the WMA. Please don't be spreading things that unless you know they are true.

upsslim, It was you that posted,
"Talked to the family and he was out hunting and there were a bunch of kids ages 16-20 out messing around with deer rifles. They were making so much noise he got out of his stand to go investigate. One of the kids shot him on accident."
Now you posted, "He was walking to his truck just like we all do at the end of the day."
Maybe you should ease up on your fellow THFers until you get your story straight.

I remain steadfast in my position that no officer or citizen alike should go walking around in the woods at night without a light. There is not a deer in the woods, or the chance of citing someone for a misdemeanor, that warrants being unsafe when there are, or might be, others with loaded firearms nearby.

I feel quite certain the officer and his family would have no issue if our discussion helps other officers and citizens avoid being involved in the same type of incident.

Oh, like when you posted... This is a post from another forum. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE upsslim, It was you that posted,

Maybe you should ease up on your fellow THFers until you get your story straight. Exactly, and it was Texas Dan's most recent link that stated the shooting was after 6:30 PM as do numerous others. They also include additional information not present in the original reports as well. Fried was shot shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Cooper Wildlife Management Area near Sulphur Springs in Delta County. The county is about 115 miles northeast of Fort Worth. For once, just once, can folks not argue? A man was shot. Accident, negligence, or intentional doesnt matter. Say a prayer, think a good thought, or whatever you do. Save the arguing for a good low fence/high fence thread. Can we just try this? Set egos aside.

More knee mail going up for our local Game Warden. I met him when my boys took hunters education 2 years ago. He's a nice guy.

I can't say anything more than what I have until official statements come out, but He was going to investigate when it happened. Chris is doing really well. Its a miracle he is alive- I'll say that.

Bad deal all around. Prayers up for the GW, his recovery and strength for his family.
Hopefully the shooter owns up so that the situation does not draw out. As stated earlier, if the shooting proves unintentional, more than one family's future will be altered. Just glad the GW appears to be recovering. Right now, I am sure there is NO ONE that feels worse than the person responsible for pulling that trigger! That said, we are all busy praying for the wardens full recovery; especially the person who pulled that trigger, as well as, the families on both sides. I recall a thought that my great uncle told me a very long time ago...Son, ALWAYS know what your target is, what is BEHIND the target, and NEVER shoot into the bushes at anything. I just wish that EVERYONE had the opportunity to HEAR my great uncle's words...

Prayers sent for him and his family. Im on patrol in the city tonight and this incident will remind me of how life is precious. We all know how dangerous a GW job can be in performing his/her duties. Depending on as yet unknown details and circumstances he may/may not have been in the process of performing his duties. But one thing is certain, it will all come out in the wash...Lets just continue to hope for a speedy recovery for a good man. Incidentally, bad things do occasionally happen to good people...An aunt of my used to say...God takes all the good people too early in their life.

What a horrible act. Prayers for his recovery. I was "accidentally" shot by another individual while I was out early evening rabbit hunting almost 25 years ago. The bullet missed my heart by two inches. No cell phone at the time, and I was left to drive myself to the hospital. I lived, and the shooter went to jail.
