Was hunting at my place in Dime Box Friday morning and shot a very big and healthy Coyote. When I slipped out the blind to retreave it I noticed something Black 200 yds away by a cedar tree at the corner of my property and the empty neighbors house. This thing looked to be sitting and was about 20-24" tall. when I checked it out with my Bino's it was a cat. when it got up and turned away it had a bobbed tail. They do have mellanistic bobcats in Florida and I saw a thread on here from 2011 from a guy that claimed to have seen one. My hunting has been real slow this yr and the deer have changed there movements on my property. I do have bobcat tracks on the dam to my tank and it appears to have 2 cubs. I wasn't drinking and I don't feed indian corn so let that be said before I get a rash of comments. it was definitely to large to be a feral domestic cat. What else could it have been.

It is easy to spot a black panther in North America wild....they are always near a bigfoot riding a unicorn......everyone knows that.....

Time for some wounded rabbit calling and see if you can draw it out. A black bobcat would make a really great mount.

It was a feral car or the lighting was such that a bobcat appeared black

My money would be on a feral cat, but if it was in a shaded area, it could look almost black.

I saw a melanistic bobcat in Webb County about 8 years ago. Unfortunately it was 600+ yards away down a sendero. We also had two ocelots on that ranch.

I never seen a "Black Bobcat" that would be a neat hide to have. BTY A baby bobcat is called a "Kitten", if it was a "cub", you'd have bigger problems

I've seen bobs that were spotted but had an unusually darker overall appearance. If you are sure the tail was bobbed, then I'd figure a bobcat that was black or darker than normal. Call some local taxidermists- they often know about unusual animals because folks that shoot them want them mounted.

Jace Robertson proved on TV that "at a distance"....everything looks darker. Except for Godwin - who is as white as Casper.
All seriousness, I have seen some really dark bobcats on our lease also. I can still see the spots, but just barely, very dark brown. And the white bellies are not as prevalant.
