So back at home for mid tour leave and want to get in a hunt before going back to the land of no hunting. To get the super combo license do I need to show anything other than my ID at Walmart or do I need to go to a Rod and Gun Club on post? Texas regs say that the license is free, but wife went to rod and gun here locally and the desk clerk quoted her $60.00 for then to issue me one. What gives?

I think it's the least we can do for our active duty residents

When I was AD I went to local Wally World and they issued me a free super combo with just my ID as proof.

You should be fine going to Wally World and not have to get it on base. Base rod and gun was probably thinking she was trying to get one for herself through your name...who knows. We know gunning workers can be a little hard to work with sometimes, and anyone in the military understand a that fully!

Good luck!!

Picked it up at Walmart in Harker Heights this evening. Got the Super Combo for the remainder of the season and for fishing. May dip a line when I head to my brother's area later after the new year.

Thanks again.

$60 is what it cost for a Ft. Hood hunting licence. Funny you can get a Free Texas hunting licence but the Military makes active duty pay to hunt on post.
