A buddy took this really old 8 off my place yesterday and this deep scratches were on his back right about the front shoulders.Looks like about a week old by the scabbing.. What in the heck is it? only thing Im guessing is either from fighting, fence or a large cat..

It's a brand that belongs to the Spider Ranch just down the road. You might ask them if they want their livestock back.

Tribal tattoo.

A real hunter never returns empty handed. Spending time in the wilderness temporarily satifies the soul, but leaves us longing for more.

I can clearly tell that deer narrowly escaped a black panther. Seen this a hundred times.

Next question.

I have seen 3 and 4 yr old bucks that have a patch of hair missing in the middle of their shoulder blades like that. That happens from fighting on bucks that age. When they fight they drop their brisket closer to the ground for leverage and in doing so their shoulder blades flex upwards and rub together when fighting. That rubs the hair off. If that buck is really that old then it is probably something similar but not as noticeable.

Bound to be a mountain lion if it is posted here...

One of the experts will be along shortly to point out how the long tail contributed to the scarring.

I think one of his deer buddies tried to shave a picture in his back hair while he was passed out from too much deer beer.

Dont see any scabbing so maybe your mountain lion doesnt have sharp claws.
