I don't normally think about filming hunts or kill shots, but, I can see a value in it especially for say bowhunting, to look back at footage to determine shot quality before setting of on a tracking job. Yeah, I can see the usefulness

Always wanted to film my own hunts. Hopefully I'll be set up by next season.

I've been filming some of my hunts for a couple years and have gotten some great footage. I used a GoPro this year and was disappointed because of focus range. It was great for stalking bedded hogs at point-blank range, but for shooting a deer at a feeder 100 yards out, worthless. I stick with my HD video camera on a tripod.
This ATN looks like it closes the gap, but I am not sure the 5x will still provide clear images beyond bow range.

I think 5x will be good but it would be nice if it had a variable zoom out to 10x.
5x will be better beyond bow range. I am guessing out 75yds it should work great and 5 times better than a go pro at longer ranges.
put your scope on 5x to get an idea.

Here is another link from a vendor. Interesting how they only have the same video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX8eFnTLh7ULooks pretty neat. Several companies have come up with shot cams that haven't panned out very well. The 5x is a bonus, but I think I will wait for some reviews other than by vendors or ATN and also some Youtube vids to see how well it actually works in real field conditions. The video on the Shot Trak page is not from the rifle being used in the video. The image looks so nice and steady and clear, but camera-mounted video usually shows a lot more movement and certainly shows the recoil of the shot fired. In other words, your video isn't apt to look anything like the video shown on the site if you have your camera weapon-mounted. If it isn't weapon mounted, you have a lot better options for videography in the field than a Shot Trak.

Always wanted to film my own hunts... I have a HD (1080p) Sony video camera on a tripod that I take to the blind with me. When I get in the blind I set it up so that when it comes time all I have to do is hit the power and record buttons.

Hmm Yeah,, if you want a decent video of a deer being shot past 100 yards you need 10x In fact I am looking for a doubler for my Canon HD which has a10x optical zoom

I used my GoPro on a Sat AM Duck hunt and an earlier season Deer Hunt. Everyone is looking to capture different elements of their hunt I guess, I prefer a head mounted GoPro for Duck Hunting given you can watch the birds coming up, action in the blind, etc vs just seeing where your gun is pointing.
Kind of the same for Deer Hunting, though the lack of any zoom capability (on my Gen 2 GoPro) does leave a little to be desired on a typical (100 yd +) deer shot.
All in all, I'd recommend the head mounted cam vs a gun mount. I camo'ed mine up with some camo gun material that came out looking pretty good.

I have always wanted to use a GoPro to film a hunt. Thanks for the heads up on using the head mount.

Go Pro's have no zoom capability. If you're above a deer or a pig that is close (within 20 feet), you'll get a good view. If you're further than that, you'll start to lose the clarity. anything more than that, and you will have some problems with getting a good picture.

put your scope on 5x to get an idea. If this ATN cam has 5x optical zoom that would be awesome. From looking at the pics I think it uses 5x digtal zoom means nothing, any video editing program can do that.

The new GoPro, the + version...sucks. The new lense is improved but only for very close up use. It does not have the infinity focus that the non + versions have.
So if your wanting to use one for hunting, try to buy an older version or just the basic Gopro Hero 3 white edition. I found a Hero 3 black edition at academy for $275. Do not buy the Hero 3+.
