I shot a doe at 15 yrds from a tree stand a few days ago and had a complete pass through.
Shot placement

The Deer ran 30 yards blood pouring and stood under a giant oak for 30 mins. I'm waiting to see her fall over dead and she walks away. I'm at my house so I go into the house and grab my rifle to end this and she is gone. I go back inside grab a flash light and start to track her after a 1000 yards she is gone from the property. I get in my truck to see if she crossed the community road(1 HR later) and yep she did and was laying down across the road starring at me, got up and trotted about 40 yards and walked out of site like nothing was wrong. I know there is a 3" hole all the way through her and can't under stand how she is living. It was a high heart & lung shot at a downward angle & very slight 1/4 away. 2 days later still haven't found her, Still pissed she got away and upset I lost her. UGGHH!!!!!
I was shooting a 3 blade Rage and have never had this happen and now I'm stumped.

From that circl, I would venture to say she dropped and you hit higer than that mark. Blood color? Bubbles or foamy blood?

I'm with you in this. Shot placement can be deceiving in the split second it happens. If the hit was good you would have recovered your deer.

That was the exact spot all the blood was coming out from. The only thing I could determine is that she matrixed and I just so happened to go through the hollow spot between the back strap and the lungs. I've been waiting for a doe to come back with a band-aid on laughing at me. Then I'll have to find a spot just a little lower and maybe tighter to the Shoulder. The only other deer I've lost was a giant 8pt that I stuck through a shoulder that didn't go all the way through but penetrated 12" because that was what broke off the Arrow. We made the mistake of searching for him too soon. Any deer lost in that 25 years is a hard pill for me to swallow. I've found deer that a Buddies son killed with a rifle and that had very little blood maybe 7 to 10 drops in a 300 yard radius and recovered her in 2 hrs blind so this one isn't sitting well with me, the freezer is nearly empty and I really don't want to pull out the OLE death dealer 280

I have used the blood tracking agents with great success. Take a look http://www.bloodglow.com/Testimonials.html

The other product like this is made by blue star. I used it this year on a spike that I shot a little high so blood was not pouring out though it was a double lung shot.
Anyway I had lost sight if the deer after about 60 yd and thought I heard him crash deeper in the woods but it was thick and after waiting an hour I couldn't find him. I mixed up a bottle if this stuff and was back on the track in minutes. It was a very fine spray of blood off both sides of the deer, I could not see anything with my 600 lumen flashlight. The deers body cavity finally filed with enough blood to start using the flashlight. He'd only gone another 40yds but I can't say I'd have found him based in the stuff he ran into. Worth a try and according to the testimonials it's not very time or rain sensitive, just make sure there us no iron in the water you use or everything will glue.

i have had two scenarios similar to this with, you guessed it, rage broad heads. First time, it just bounced off the shoulder and continued under the skin creating two flesh wounds. Second was this year with the wife. She shot a doe at 30 yards with x-bow right at dark. Shot looked good. we waited and went and looked. not a drop of blood anywhere except the arrow. Looked like the rage didn't "rage" her. We looked everywhere for nearly two days and not a single drop on the ground, fence, tree, or brush. we were really perplexed how that could happened. After looking at the broad head (now blades open from hitting dirt after pass thru) it looked as there was no blood under the blades, as in it was closed as it passed thru the deer. Needless to say i am in the process of switching to a fixed blade. cant stand losing deer to a faulty broad head. Not sure if that's the problem here but rage seems to have a good and bad days unfortunately.
