I eat what I kill, but I don't always kill what I eat.
Girlfriend Wife: "Why am I here?"
Me: "So I do not have to open the gate!"

Not yet in Webb Co. though they are breaking out of bachelor groups. The area over around Carrizo Springs is typically one of the last to fire off, in my experience.

Jim Hogg county-mature bucks are becomming very territorial and young bucks are chasing with noses down. The cold front this weekend should make for a great hunt! Good luck to you all!

My buddy took two big mgmt 8's last week and left a few for us this week. The week before said it was very slow. With the front hitting Thurs hope we will see a bunch.

Rain looks very light if any at this point. Going to feel weird being 82 Thurs and 50 Fri. Last year I wore shorts 4 days straight.

Spent a lot of time in Zavalla County/Crystal City in years past and it seemed like clock work there to me.
Brush came alive every year within a day of December 25th and the week up to January 1. Then they were silent again.

Update on rut near Goliad county? I am trying to decide whether or not it would be worth the trip to go up on Saturday for a evening and morning hunt.

Carrizo should start around the 20th to 24th with rut activity. Around the last week of the year bucks should be rutting hard.

I was in Carrizo last weekend and saw about 2 bucks rutting out of 30. One had a 3 doe harem walking around me. He was better than any cow dog at rounding them up. I should have taken them all out but had 3 down already.

Well I know the dang does must have had a good year in south Texas. Just this morning, out feeding cattle I saw 9 does in my northwest pasture and each one of them had a yearling with them. Then I was in the southern part of the ranch and saw 6 more and 5 of them had yearlings. Couple of younger bucks roaming around but, didn't observe them to much because I had to get to town.

Was south of Cotulla Sunday and Monday and saw no signs of the rut kicking in.

I was in brooks last week into Monday, didn't see much rutting activity at all. Couple young bucks would run doe off of the corn and come right back and eat.
