New to the forum, thanks for having me. I have only been hunting for 4 seasons now and I'm hooked now. First deer ever, first deer to even see in the stand. Just wanted to know what people thought. Taken Dec 14th in Coryell County.

I was getting so discouraged that I'd never get that first deer. Only saw him on the game camera the day before coming out at lunch time. Went out the next morning acting like I was a pro, cause my fiance was with me. She had plans for us in the afternoon, so I couldn't stay out for long. Figured I could see a few hogs we are trying to get rid of. Then bam, 8am hit and this guy showed up. Got so nervous I closed my eyes when I shot and didn't think I hit him. I was using my grandpa's old 30-30 bolt action and couldn't get another round in a hurry. There he was just eating away like nothing happened, then just walked off behind a bunch of mesquite, cactus and oak trees and couldn't see him. He didn't go 20 yards from the stand but it seemed like a mile.

Awesome man. New to hunting also been using a excalibur crossbow haven't had any luck so I just bought the new Remington 783 so hopefully my luck will change .

'Grats, very nice buck! I think it's great that it has taken a while to get here but you stuck with it. Hunting requires patience and I think there are probably too many people that would have thrown in the towel a while back. We should make a new thread to track how long from when somebody started hunting to when they got their first buck.
