Has anyone double lunged a deer and had little blood to follow? This is a first for me. My daughter shot this buck tonight at 100 yards and we only found one spot of blood about 50 yards from the shot. I combed the ground at the spot the buck was shot and found nada.

I double lunged an elk with a 140gr TSX 270 WSM and he left zero blood. Piled up about 60 yards from point of impact and the only blood we found was under him.

Don't you know that double lung shots should only be done with ballistic tip rounds?? stir

This is the blood I found when the buck turned to the right in the video. He stopped behind the brush in the vid

I've called in help to track in the am. I don't think he is too far past the blood I found. But there is no trail to follow. It reminds me of the deer that have been shot out here with Cor-lokt bullets. The last buck she shot only went 50 yards with the same bullet. The shot placement looked good from what I can tell.

That looks like good blood to me. It looks like a piece of lung laying there. Good luck in the am, and keep us posted.

I shot a doe several years ago with a Barnes TSX 160 grain in 338 Remington ultra mag. That bullet is flying at 3,600 feet per second. I hit her right behind the shoulder, saw the hole behind her shoulder. I watched her lay down in the snow. I hunted until after dark went down to retrieve her and found a blood trail to where she laid down. Never found her or anymore blood after the spot where she laid down. Looked for hours that evening and came back the next morning and looked for hours, but never found her. I think she was abducted by aliens and healed from her wombs.

Deer appeared to be hit high and maybe a bit back. Might not have gotten both lungs. High lung shots take them a bit to start to bleed out.

Might be that the bullet didn't hit where you thought it hit. A lung shot usually results in foamy blood, which your picture doesn't seem to show. And look higher up for the blood, on twigs or shrub leaves or on a tree trunk where a badly hit deer would lean to rest for a second. They'll blow blood out the entrance and exit holes. A double lung hit deer won't go far, unless the first thing after the echo of the shot died away is that ya'll ran to the impact spot and made a bunch of noise. That will push a deer further than a mortally wounded deer will usually get. Wait at least 10 minutes before beginning to track. By then the deer will have laid down and died. If it has not laid down and died, then it most likely wasn't hit in the lungs, and you need to refer to paragraph two.

Use toilet paper for tracking. Hang a square waist high wherever you find blood. Leaves a very visible trail (daylight and dark). Deer hit badly don't do much than stagger in a somewhat steady line, even if not exactly a straight line. You can look back at the tp squares to reorient yourself on where the blood trail should be. My cousin uses bright orange plastic tape, but I prefer the pure white toilet paper, which...has other uses. Good luck on the other uses if you have bright orange plastic tape. :-)

That was a lot of blood. Hard to see it getting more than a couple hundred yards if that much blood came out of a double lung where the deer was shot.

I'd go look for water. Maybe not tanks given how wet it's been lately.

Here is a pic that I took when my daughter slowed down the video. You can see the red behind the shoulder.

The wife double lunged one two years ago with a 222 at 175yds. She hit it about four inches back. The deer only went about 100yds but it didn't leave as much blood as a shot farther forward. They usually run, but a double lung pass through is almost always a kill. I do it because it saves meat, and uses the heart to bleed out the meat.
