Just watched 2 land at one of our lakes. Got excited til I pulled up regs and did not see a season for them....

Nope no season In fannin guess were not in a good area and they want those coming back is all I can guess

There must be a known whooping crane stop-over location (NWR or lake) in the county.

No, there's just not a crane season in all of north/east Texas. Not a consistent huntable population.

No, there's just not a crane season in all of north/east Texas. Not a consistent huntable population.


IMO, they should open statewide considering its migratory anyway. But I'm sure TPW has a great reason for keeping it closed up in the NE

You have no idea how many Great Blue Herons, egrets, and all form of other birds are saved because it is closed here. The chances of actually seeing one are really low.

Duck boy is correct.

The reason we have no season is manly cause there are so many whooping cranes in this aera.

There are whooping cranes in areas where season is open tho, the reason it's closed isn't just the whoopers, it's that there's not enough opportunity to actually hunt sandhills to make it worth the risk.
