I would suggest going wider than 4'. I would go 6'x6' or 6'x8'. 4' is just to narrow with 3 chairs and 3 people with all their gear. I have 4'x6' blinds and it is just to a bit to narrow.

Have a 4x6 too and it does get a bit cramped with two hunters and our stuff.

Don't make it too big I have a 6x8 that we built and if you are hunting by yourself it is not very easy to see all the lanes and shoot through the windows unless you are okay with shooting with the gun all the way in the blind.

Designing one for a friend who will be taking his grandkids hunting starting next year. Went 6×8 like my last stand. Mine was 6×8 and when 1 of my kids wanted to lay down they could roll out a sleeping bag on the floor behind me and I still had room to be somewhat comfortable.

I do 5 x 8 and 45 deg the front two corners for a 10-14" window

I do 5 x 8 and 45 deg the front two corners for a 10-14" window I think this would be the perfect size. Plenty of room but not too big. Walter

Been building custom blinds for years, and I've done lots of different sizes. If you're hunting 2 or less, I suggest you go with a 4x6. If you're planning to hunt 3, I'd go with a 6x6. More than 3 is crazy, but I'd keep it under 7'. I've built a couple of 8' long blinds, and both guys regretted it. You simply can't reach window to window in an 8' blind. Sounds to me like you need a 6x6. You can sit side by side or front/back in that size blind.

I hunt in a 4x6 Dillon blind now and up to this point I've only had one of my kids. Now I have two kids to take some how. My wife has semi-agreed to go next year and help manage the two of them. So, I am going to build a "custom" elevated blind to meet our/their needs. I'm thinking 4x8 will be best in case I need to take both kids with me only. Some of the custom features I'm considering are..... Doing one end of the blind (3 windows) at a lower height for the youngsters so they can see out and shoot better, curtain system over the windows to minimize the game seeing us, and using the Elevators as part of the construction. Thoughts and feedback ???

I use a semi truck sleeper. I went to a local wrecking yard and picked up one from a wrecked rig with only dents and scratch's for a very reasonable price. The sleeper was a walk in sleeper so that makes it seven feet long, just under 6 foot tall and 5 1/2 feet deep. It's made of aluminum so it's not real heavy and the mice and rats cant chew into it. All I had to do was cut holes in it put in windows (I found at a horse trailer repair shop) and it was pretty much ready to go. All the walls are very thick insulated and make the blind very well insulated with somewhat of a sound barrier. If you find one like mine that already has a door on the side that saves a lot of time and is very nice.
Just my two cents.

Firecop,
Do you have a picture of your blind? That sounds like a sweet setup.

I am not building a blind.. I am building a dog house that my wife can send me too...and I will be okay with it.
8x8 box on a 10x8 base 12 ft off the ground with 9 6x6x12 posts to support it.
Overkill? Probably, but after seeing a guy's ankle on here the other day from when his stand fell over... it better kill me :P
I am preparing to start teaching my kids to hunt and I want enough room to beat them into quietness and also allow them to pass out from said beatings and sleep on the floor :P
Russ
Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

I've got a 4x6 and I would never do it again. Just too cramped for two people chairs and gear. I"m building a 6x6 for next season. One of the main reasons is to get enough room to use my Mr. Heater Buddy without burning my legs or my kids. My girls like to take a nap some times too, so the extra room behind the chairs will be perfect. 4x6 is just too small..we are always bumping the walls and cramped for space.
I'd be a vegitarian too if bacon grew on trees.
