this system works best for me.
step 1 level rifle in vice
step 2 put the level on the barrel (so you can take the gun out of the vice, and return to level)
step 3 adjust eye relief
step 4 adjust rifle back to level and install scope, use the 1st level on the scope cap

Swap out leveling the turret with leveling the reticle matched with a plumbob at 20 to 50 yards.

The pictures are a lot of help, and the instructions are good. After I do the best I can, I test the level by shooting at a target, then raising the crosshair 2 or 3 mils and shooting at the same p.o.a. as before. The second shot should be vertically aligned with the first one. I find that my best bubble level attempts can fail to line up the crosshairs to an acceptable degree.

You can have it done fast, or cheap, or correct. But only two of the three.

as YOU well know how much the scope gets out of alignment when tightening the rings, oh, you can't see that happening when using the plumb bob, as I said this works best for me, I have used all methods, been shooting since 1950, this is what I choose to use, don't understand why it bothers you so much.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Wheeler kit and if you're happy with it that's all that really matters, but I have to agree with JG that you can get a lot more precise matching the reticle to a plumb line than you can with a 2" bubble level on the turret... I wish the turret level had a hinge and an adjustment screw like the one for the barrel clamp. Then you could set it so the bubble rests on the line, which is more precise than eyeballing the bubble in the middle - and would be very helpful for ensuring that you're not twisting the scope out of alignment while tightening the rings.

What you do doesn't bother me. Do as you please, since you have 63 years experience. My comments are for other onlookers, so they will know the other option. The option that guys that shoot very far, and dial elevation use. Since placing a level on a scope turret has produced several degrees of cant, in previous tests.
