There are actually different phases of the RUT. They are probably starting to go into pre rut now that far south. And the younger bucks almost always start chasing does first. But when the actual breeding takes place you'll know it. This colder weather will definately help. Check the TPWD web site and you'll find info on previous Rutting times from across the State.

Has the rut past in the cross timbers region or is it on?

I believe that with the info I found on the TPWD it is still to come, but soon. North central Texas it usually happens during the middle of Nov. This full moon should start things off.

The rut in on in Parker county my brother called me today from south of Springtown and said he saw a couple of bucks in his front pasture fighting and sat in his truck and watched them for about 20 minutes.

I haven't even been to the deer lease yet. I have no idea what is happening there.

Last weekend up by Woodson (Throckmorton county) I was sitting in the stand about 8 15 am and was looking to my left. When I turned back right there was an 8 pt with a doe that had appeared on the other side of the fence! They were only about 40 yds away. They looked around for a minute, then he stomped at her and she took off running and he chased after her. If they were on my lease I would have busted that doe but they stayed on the other property. I think this weekend should kickstart it pretty good.

I don't hunt deer anymore, but I was always amazed how those gray ghosts could just appear.

Hunted all day yesterday in Zavalla and didn't see a thing. It was almost like day during the night with the full moon. The wind was blowing hard all day. I didn't hear any shooting either.

Where I hunt the TPWD has no ecological data, but northern Pineywoods is close. Even though we're on 7-days/week here, you can bet I'll take some time off and be in the woods on the 21st and 22nd of this month.

I shot a deer last week in Kaufman area following a doe. He picked his nose off the ground long enough to stop and look at me--he won't get a re-do on that one.

It's my first year deer hunting. My lease is in southeast Coke County and I spent the week there. If "the rut" means, horny bucks chasing does in heat and fighting other bucks to establish their dominance and who gets the cookie...I haven't seen any of it.
