Caught this deer on my trail camera and I have never seen a deer with "white socks" like this before. Has anyone ever seen it or know why the deer is like this?

I`ve seen it on a red deer once on 1 foot, but thats something else, could be an albino gene maybe, those trail cameras take nice photo`s too, been thinkin about gettin 1.

There could be several reasons why that deer has the white socks.

Could be genetics, could be due to some type of injury to those feet, many times injuries will cause the hair in the injured area to grow in white.

Could be there are/wer some pie-bald deer in that animals family tree.

My former hunting partner killed a Mulie Buck up in Nebraska a few years back that had a mostly white face, pinkish nose and blue eyes.

A few years back, a couple of miles west of the place I used to hunt in Montague county, I saw a white white Tail doe one afternoon, and it was not an albino.

Its nose was black and its eyes were dark not pink. It was running with 2 normal colored does.

This past spring one of my hunters killed a 64 pound female javelina that had one white foot.

Stuff like that occurs a lot more frequently than people realize, and now with so many folks using vgame cams around the country, more folks are seeing it. JMO.

not sure about the sox, unless it's genetics.
But you got a cool opportunity to let him walk, as he seems young, and track his progrees.
I'd take advantage of that. Kinda like a little 'pet' project. sorry.

yeah it is a funny story because last year my uncle came back from the deer stand and claimed to us all that he saw this deer that had "white stocking" on its back legs..we gave him so much hell over it and told him he needed to lay off the crown in the stand.. and then this year i put out a trail camera and we get some pics of him and actually saw him while hunting last weekend..does anyone think that he needs to be shot or like medic said..keep track of him and his progress??

I've never seen the socks, but I shot a ten point in Kimble County several years ago that had a white spot on his back between his shoulders about 5" in diameter!

This is pretty common, and I am told that it is white hair because of tissue damage from years of sliding underneath barbed wire fences. I killed a buck a couple weeks ago that had the same thing, but his hide was actually rubbed raw right there with no hair. He was old.

At our lease we have a few bucks running around that have perfectly white feet to about 3 to 4 inches above each hoof, it's crazy looking. We figure some genetic trait. But we are not biologists! We do have a Dentist
