I would go straight to a 7mm08. My 11 year old daughter shoots a H&R handy rifle in 7mm-08 and loves it! She got it last year and killed two does with it and got her first buck last week. Good Luck!! Also an excellent choice in several calibers.

My wife just tops 5'. She came right out of the chute (shoot - pun intended) with a .308. At first she used my Savage 99 but the pull was a little long. I bought her a M70 Youth, ordered in .308 about 25 years ago and never looked back.... (but then again her favorite handgun is a .45 auto).

My wife likes any gun she can shoot. My ammo expenses have quadrupled since I introduced her to shooting. My advice is take her out and let her pick the gun she prefers.

My SIL that is 4'10" uses a Ruger youth model in 7mm-08. My wife is 5'2" uses a cut down Rem 722 in .257 bob.
With that said, they both love AR's too. So don't overlook them. The stock is adjustable and they aren't front heavy. A .300 blk, 6.5, 6.8 or even 7.62x39 will work on TX game.

Great Ideas across the board yall. I appreciate all the feed back. The last gun show she went to with me she was really diggin on the mossberg MVR which is a compact bolt 223 that takes ar mags. She liked the idea of having alot of extra ammo ready to rock. LOL! She also likes my mid 60's marlin mod 39 30-30. But I have the stock extended by about two inches over stock and she looks really funky shooting it. The 336y seems to fit her pretty well. She definately has her own opinnions on what she likes. I cant wait to watch her drop her own dinner for the first time. I just have to pull the fishing rod out of her hands first. I swear, she would fish during a zombie apocolypse.
The willingness to succeed is not as important as the willingness to prepare.

In terms of youth sized rifles, I really like the Rem 700 youth models. Saw one the other day and it was solid.

Don't rule out the savage 11/111 in the. 6.5 creedmore either. Low recoil, great ballistics, in a compact package....... Just another one to throw in the mix
