Well I got the opportunity to hunt on the world famous Prude Ranch this week and had a stroke of luck on the first evening we arrived. We got to the ranch around 4 and got unloaded and decided to hop in the mule and make a trip around and see if we could stir something up. We drove around for about 20 min and reached a spot where we could turn around and as we were making the turn we saw a couple of does browsing on the hillside. We watched them for a couple of minutes and as we were about to leave I saw a body come up from the ravene and I could instantly tell it was a buck. We got a good look at him and knew it was a shooter so we got out and put a stalk on him. We got to about 150yds and got a clean look at him and took the shot. The 270wsm hit the mark and he dropped in his tracks. This is my very first mule deer and a very exciting hunt. Well spend the rest of the weekend on top of the mountain looking for an aoudad.

Talk about great timing! What a nice buck....good job. Always nice to tag out early and look for other game species.

Thank you sir. I will tell him. I owe this one to him. He's been coming here for 15 years now and hasn't ever shot one this big and I tried to hand him my rifle but he insisted on my shootin it.

We got the tape on him after lunch and he taped out at 167 gross. Not too shabby for my first mule deer if I do say so myself!
