Just curious how other people have found the lease they currently hunt. Did you knock on doors, chamber of commerce, broker, friend already on lease, etc?

I shot a doe at my last lease and took it to another processor and mentioned it to the processor and he said they had openings coming up on the lease he and his grandfather run!!! They took me to the lease and showed me and even allowed me to scout it before I paid on it!!! See deer every time I go out except when the hogs go through LOL!!!

A friend told me that he knew a land owner was interested in in leasing. Seven years later, I still lease the place.

my Uncle stopped by the local feed store they had been doing business with and told them what was going on at the current lease (got sold and new owners didn't want to lease). They got a call a couple weeks later from the feed store, the guy found them a place to hunt. Talk to the locals....

I found my current lease through leasehunter.com but previous leases came through friends or local contacts.

It was word of mouth through a friend. That was 13 years ago and still on the same place.

I got invited to join my brother in law's lease about 10 years ago. There has been some turnover, but we have a great group.

Thing is if you find the right little hidden place surrounded by a bunch of non hunters or large ranches you can have better hunting on 50 acres than you would on a big lease with a lot of hunters and lease rules that are out of your power... In the next few years im sure ill be getting out of my bigger leases and concentrating more on my 40acres.

You wont regret buying a place

Leasehunter.com for one I'm on now that I plan on staying on and I found a second on Craigslist this season. On the new place I just checked Craigslist out of curiosity and my buddy and I ended up on a neat little place close to home. Got really lucky on that one- it was a unique deal where we happened to fit just what they were looking for in hunters on their place.

I had one from Craigslist three years ago that did not work out as well and some others I checked out back when I was looking a few years ago didn't feel right. But I know another guy that's on a great place found on Craiglist; so I'd say check it out carefully but don't totally discount Craigslist.

Got on with a coworker. Will have 2 next year, another coworker is kicking some people off and wants me on with him. Even have another coworker that may have an opening next year as well...
