Some of you financial wizards figure out what each of these birds would bring in 2013. this was 1900. What would they be worth in todays inflation? Go to work!!

Canvasback prime would be about $117-165
.50 would be about $12...

What makes a CB prime vs regular?
Any creature in my vicinity that possesses an explosive penis is going to be killed.

$1.00 x 29 = $29.00
So a Canvasback(regular) at those prices nowadays would be $72.50
That doesn't seem right but that's the conversion I found.

.50 would be about $12... Looks like even a bit higher than that depending on the calculator. From 1900 to 1913 there was a decent amount of inflation as well. According to the Bureau of Statistics the cumulative rate of inflation since 1913 has been about 2259.1%. Yikes...

A regular canvasback for 2.50 at the rate I used was 58.98. As for what makes it prime, I could only speculate

Yeah I used the rate for 1913 so it could be significantly higher for 1900

It depends on your the inflation rate assumption. If you used 2.5%. $1 at a constant growth rate of 2.5% annually would be $16.29 after 113 years. So it's not the type of money that would make you rich...you'd need to bag a few birds just to cover expenses but then again back then we are talking no limits and incredible numbers so I'm sure 50 to 100 bird days were not impossible so that could be some real money.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

A prime bird I suppose would be one that sat in one place for a while and was fat, not a skinny one that had just flown 500 miles on a front.

By the way this is what financial planners call a time value of money calculation. You can switch up any of the assumptions to solve for whatever you are trying to solve for.

Pintail worth $.50 in 1900, average rate of inflation last 100 years has been 3.34%, the rest is bump and grind:
* Future Value = P*(1 + r)^n
* Pintail Value 2013 = Pintail Value (1+ Avg Inflation rate)^ 113 years
* Pintail Value 2013 = $.50*(1+.034)^113 = $21.87

My guess would be the prime would be an aged bird. Many of European countries hang their birds by the head and the age them till either the guts fallout or the bird head falls off. Yummy!

When I was in the army in 1992, I was in Great Britain and saw first hand how they hung pheasants and ducks in the cellar. Everyone had their own version of aging, but the majority hung them for 10 to 14 days by the bill. I also saw other birds hanging. This is fact and not a second hand story.
