Ok guys forgive me for stupid questions but I am trying to get as much info as possible.. I've always piggy backed on a lease with my dad or friends and of course you never end up with the good end of the stick. So next season is gonna be my first on my own. I know there's a lot of work, I have the feeder, blind, etc. I just need to figure out what the best way to find a lease is, where are you looking for one, I'm really looking for year round so I can do dove, turkey and some fishing... I'm assuming I'd need to start ASAP, just don't know what direction to go.. I'm looking for within 2 hours of Austin by the way.

I check everywhere. Craigslist, local papers, Chamber of Commences for the counties i want to hunt in. Get out and talk to alot of folks. This year found my little slice of heaven by getting out and talking to land owners.. Then the land owner that has 700 acres next door ask me if i would hunt his property next year on a 2 year lease for helping him with some farming. ( he is in his 70's and no one to help him ) Of course i jumped on it. So next year will have 832 acres total for 1300 bucks. In Coke County mind you.. As tons of deer around us.. Just get out and hit the pavement. Alot of landowners do not advertise their property.

Check out the feed stores

I found mine for this year from the meat processor!!! He and his grandfather run the lease and they actually had spots open!!! Local papers, feed stores in the area, etc!!! You will probably have a better chance in February right after deer season to find opening!!!

I found mine in the local classifies...more ppl use southeasttexas.com over here than Craig's list, but there are also a few web sites you can use that advertise nothing but hunting leases. Just google Texas hunting lease and you will find plenty. The more homework you do, the better chances you will have of finding one that fits all your needs.

Leases around here are always filling up in late spring early summer, so starting just after the first of the year is a good idea.

I'd be a vegitarian too if bacon grew on trees.
