I bought a progressive mec 20 gauge reloader a while back. My son shoots a lt 1100 and small loads work in it fine. My wife shoots a youth lt 1100 and only 1 oz loads or bigger will cycle the gun. I can reload the small loads and it works fine only because it was set up that way and I have not changed it. I have a 7/8 and a 1 1/8 charge bar. I have read through a reloaders manual, but I would like someone to hold my hand and tell me what powder, shot, wad, bushing and primers to buy and make that 1 1/8 charge bar work to cycle the gun. I am dumb on this, and I know I can get someone hurt if I do not get it right. Also if anyone has a 1 oz charge bar I would like to have it. Anyone have a good recipe for a dummy.

You need to get the universal charge bar. I got one for mine and it is a lifesaver. Then you can just dial in what you need and want. It will also come with paperwork with all the different loads you can work up.
MEC Universal Charge Bar
Not sure what model you have, I have the 9000 grabber, but you can buy the universal charge bar for any of the models. Just do a google and you will find what you need.
As far as powder goes I use Winchester Super Target for now... and Federal 209A primers. I only use Winchester AA hulls. You can find/buy wads for these hulls just about anywhere. They are the most popular type of hull to reload. You can also buy the hulls anywhere. As far as how much powder to use, I'm not sure, I dont have the manual in front of me. I use 3 drams of powder sitting under 1 1/8 oz of 9 shot in a 2 3/4 inch AA 12 guage shell.
1 1/8 oz of shot is typically for 12 guage. I think Remington has that load in a 3 inch case for 20 guage. You'd have to be reloading high brass 3 inch shells in a 20 guage with a magnum load of powder. It is no wonder you cannot make it work. A typical 20 guage load is 2-1/2 Drams of powder sitting under 7/8 Ounce of Shot. If you are trying to load 1 1/8 ounce you are going to have to load 3 or more Drams of powder and you are going to need a high brass 3 inch shell. You do this in a 2 3/4 inch shell you are going to blow up your wife or kid. Your gun isn't working because you have to much shot and not enough powder. You need to let me know what shells you are trying to reload, brand and length. Then I can help you further. DO NOT TRY TO LOAD MORE POWDER INTO THESE SHELLS FOR THE 1 1/8 OUNCE LOADS!!!

I have not tried to load with the 1 1/8 charge bar. Someone gave it to me and I did not think it would work, so I have not tried. I am using a 2 3/4 shell the hull is an old factory remington sur shot. I have only done a few. I quit when I found they would only work in 1 gun. Buying factory loads, the 1 oz shot works fine. I do not know for sure what model it is, but is has the # 502 on the charge bar. I will get a universal one though. How do I determine what powder bushing #, is what dram.

You need the MEC powder chart. Each powder is different and flow different. Winchester Super Target with one pull is going to give you a different amount of powder then Universal Clays through the same bushing. This is the chart that has all the powders, bushings Powder Bushing and Charge Chart from MEC Do a google and get some Winchester AA hulls and wads. Or you can go to some area gun stores and buy them. I believe Cabela's sells them. Elk Castle sometimes has them in...Not sure what area you are in. Shot Shells that are the best for reloading You can buy once fired AA hulls all day long on Ebay. You can usually find 200+ or more for 10 bux.
