I hunted Friday afternoon in a open tower over a feeder at the edge of a wheat field. I bumped 4 does walking in and got skunked in the blind. Decided to take a bag of corn and pour it out in front of my enclosed blind after the hunt. Crawled into the enclosed blind with heater yesterday afternoon and got skunked again. I checked the corn and it was untouched and covered in ice. I saw zero tracks on my walk in and it was impossible to walk quietly while walking on sheeted ice! On my walk out at dark I could hear several deer walking around in the brush. Not going back out until mid morning Sun when some of this melts. If it had been snow I think the deer would have been more comfortable moving around. I am sure they didn't like sounding like a bull in a china shop when they did move.
good luck guys!

My blind is 150 yards from the house so,,,, Wish I had more acreage still. I know the deer here have not moved much until late morning and where out by 2pm yesterday. I watched them sliding on the ice and it was comical, but it is cold in N Texas boys! I hear further South it is less ice, but still cool.
Good luck for you young guys that risk life and limb LOL dont blow it by falling and breaking something!!!
2 good points 1 easy to follow a blood trail, Look for deer "skid marks" LOL 2 meat should freeze nice and quick!!!

I'm out. Had a big nine to my right 30 yards right at light. Couldn't get turned before he moved off. Two does under feeder now.

reading the above would lead one to question the sanity of hunters....and, the worst part is, I would be out there if it was not for 150 miles of ice covered 380 between me and the lease. oh well, hopefully can get out there tomorrow.

I was questioning who is smarter the deer or me for hunting in this weather. I think I figured out the deer were!

Was out last night and tonight. Driving the ranch my car didn't even put track marks on the ice, feels like I am hunting in Alaska or something.
The doe I saw last night were making so much noise coming in I couldn't believe they actually were moving. Hard to believe anything will be leaving their protected sanctuary for a coupe days!
Good luck to everyone still out there hunting.

Windows were frozen shut in the blind this morning. D'oh!
Gonna head back out later, they are hungry and looking for anything not covered in ice!

Fixin' to go back out to the stand after lunch. Was out yesterday evening and this morning and have seen everything but bucks. Doe, hogs, turkey and even ducks but no bucks. Rut looks like it's kaputski in Erath.

The deer were moving really well, and bucks chasing does, and all the way up until I couldn't take it anymore and had to warm up. Left the stand at 11:00, and the deer were still moving so I'm going to grab something to eat and head back out in about an hour or so. Hunting in Atascosa county, the rut is on!
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Did the same in Live Oak County, now back out in truck on corned road leading through heavily traveled ditch. Been here 5 min and 5 does out already. Good deer movement this morning, saw about 20 deer including a nice double main beam non typical (passed). 33 and drizzle here. Effin perfect. Got up at 330 and drove up this morning. After 10 hrs on stand today I will be toast.

Nothing here at all. Very bareable temps but not a thing moving...just a dumb neighbor sighting in a rifle from the sounds of it. 6 shots within a five minute period.
