I work with the Boy Scouts at church and we have been preparing for a "Mountain Man Rendezvous" next month. All of the boys have been making their own knives and mountain man clothes and such. I started this knife 2 years ago when we were preparing for the same type of activity, but I just got around to finishing it up. I ground the blade out of an old rasp and this week I finally got around to making the handle. A friend with a bunch of wood working tools helped me out and we cut the handle out of a nice piece of mesquite. I know it doesn't hold a candle to the work of some of the THF knife making pro's, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Hopefully I'll get to put it to use on next week's deer hunt!

Those look really good. How does one get started in knife making?

I've tried before on my brothers equipment, that's not easy. I really like the contours you did on the handles, I'd be very proud of that.

Thanks everybody! It was a good project. I've got several old files laying around the garage, so I'm thinking of making another one.
