First post on the forum, but I've been visiting the site for a long time.
Anyone here hunt near Groesbeck?
Just wondering what activity other people are seeing this year. So far we have 8 bucks on camera, but only 2 or 3 shooters. Lots of doe, but can't shoot them during rifle season without a permit. 300+ acres, heavy-moderate woods.

Have place in southern limestone, seeing lots of does, late fawns, and several small bucks but nothing to write home about, poachers are bad in some areas good luck.

Agreed. Biggest buck we've seen is probably 3.5-4 yrs, around 18 inches wide, nice 8 point with good mass. I'd love to let him walk so he can mature a couple more years, but with people hunting all around us he probably won't make it either way. We are also in Southern Limestone, closer to Thornton.
Every year we see a LOT of doe, but the restrictions never change for rifle season. I wish they'd let us shoot at least one, but I guess they have their reasons.

Thanks. We are hoping that we see one opening day that we haven't seen on camera yet.

I'm about 30 miles from there in Robertson County and there has been quite a bit of trailing going on lately. Me and my daughter saw 5 bucks last weekend. None were near feeders they were walking the creeks trailing a doe that had come through earlier. One decent buck was in the mix but didn't give her a shot.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

We're in Kosse. Not a ton of activity on our lease. Hoping it picks up soon.
Adult late onset hunter. Why did I wait so long to get started?

I live in Limestone (retired and moved here from Houston), about 6 miles roughly west from Thornton and 9 miles SW of Groesbeck. I've seen lots of doe and about 3 or 4 8 points that are legal. One of them is really nice for this area. I let them all walk in the hope that it'll help the breeding pool.
I saw more deer in previous years, but this year had a good acorn yield (well...relatively good) and a lot of forage. The deer aren't coming to corn very much, and I don't think they are moving around because they don't have to. I rarely get a camera shot of a decent buck at the corn. I do have a couple of cameras at areas that deer travel from wooded part A to wooded part B. I get some good bucks on camera there.
I had a great acorn yield in the front yard oak trees, and we had as many as 15 does in the yard at times. And one early morning, at various times, we had 2 spikes, 2 four points, a six, a seven, and 3 eights.
The rut is still on. I see the bucks, head down, on a mission of looking for the ladies.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

Yeah, we're seeing the same sort of deal, nothing eating the corn. Lots of green forage still and acorns too. We have 2 places near Kosse, one a little south and the other east of town.
I'm glad the rut is still going, I didn't get to go out in November, looking to stock the freezer and not much time left. I'd be happy if I saw a hog too!

I have a lot of acorns on the ground at my ranch in Kosse. My exotics arent even hitting feeders much. Hogs are staying in the woods.
Affordable hunting out of Bounds.
