Maybe its me, maybe its bad luck... but we haven't seen anything but woods ducks around here going all the way back to teal season. Not to name lakes blah blah... but I'm in extreme NE tx in bowie & cass co. I have scouted every corner of the local lake & sloughs nearby and haven't seen but maybe 6-10 big ducks all season. I wouldn't say this area is even hunted that hard so the typical issues with "public" doesn't really apply as even the one private spot I hunt has been duckless. This weekend we did finally see a handful of high flyers but they weren't interested in our lake. This is getting really discouraging and even last year was really pitiful.

Due to work, kids, money & life in general I'm not really able to scout or hunt to far from home. Just wondering if anyone else in this area is seeing the same thing cause like a previous topic said... misery loves company.

We were on Lake Caddo and Lake Cherokee during the thanksgiving break, our guide on Caddo told us that the cold front hadn't really don't much to improve the duck hunting for the break and that it was pretty rough. He said that the second half of the season would be better. We saw tons of Coots, canvasbacks, and redheads.

Look harder! I hunt Titus, Cass, Bowie, and so on.... It was only a woodie fest for me the first week of season. Since then I've had a consistent mixed bag. The last three hunts have all had mallards on the strap, keep searching I promise they're here.

We had much better numbers right before the front in Wood county. Over turkey day had a good hunt Thursday but Friday was pretty slim. Can't say I was on the 'X' but definitely didn't see the numbers or hear the shots that I was the week before.

Our numbers have been very strong. Seeing more Mallards than I can remember for it being this time of the year. We have been getting mostly limits with some slow hunts with just a few. I hunt Fannin, Lamar and Red River Counties.

OP I have a flooded bottom here in Marietta and have seen the same thing. I have killed 2 mallards in Cass county this hear the rest have been woodies. My hole was flat covered up in them until last week. Went to it on Friday and did not see anything. I Hunt another area south of here and we have killed some gadwals and woodies but no mallards yet.

Same at my lease in Cass county. Normally a wood duck hole early then the mallards show. Not this year. I see them but they are just passing by. I am blaming the big rain early in the year where we had almost 7 inches. It put lots of water on timber in places that have been dry. My timber is mostly gone now and the area is mostly marsh covered with smart weed and beaver ponds. Worst season I have had since 1992. The big fire in 2011 did not help.

Ok, just got back from kansas and there are still a lot, I mean a lot of birds in central kansas. Rafts of ducks in the hundreds, Canadians still thick in the green wheat fields. Left texas No ducks, Oklahoma no ducks, nothing impressive till I hit southern kansas, then started seeing numbers on every body of water. Other problem is nothing but open water all the way up there, we need another real cold front to push em down.

last time I went over there earlier in the season some kind of vegetation had taken over the whole area and you couldn't even put the boat in and a week or two ago I was told it was still that way. I guess I need to go see for myself. Thanks.

BIL is killing green 5 miles north of town and 4 miles south of town we have killed two so far. Go out by the coal mines and look at those ponds. Still not as many here as will be. Maybe this weekend.

yea the hydrilla was pretty thick. If you know the boat runs u can hit the river and there is a cut threw I used a bass tracker with a 30 and had no problem. or put in at the monument and go down river till you hit the main opening on the left.

Always ducks at the big lease (coal mine), which if you're reffering to land on 67. Thats private now.

Must be new to the area or you would have known that area has been like that for 10+ years. I help everybody I can out and I promise you no matter how many boats show up at the boat ramp I still produce great hunts down there no problem.

No sir born and raised here and this year is the worst one yet for public. Even still I have been hammering the ducks.

Hmmm... I was thinking this was the least amount of hunters I've seen on that lake in years. IMHO, 5 years ago was much much worse over on that side of the lake.
