I've seen quite a few fork bucks this year too. I don't know how they mature compared to other deer, but I figure it has to be better than a spike so they've been getting a pass.

1.5 yr old forks are better than 1.5 yr old spike I'd think. I have a 1.5 yr old basket 8 that I'm excited to see at 6.5

IMO, you can see the potential in a buck's rack once he reaches 2-1/2 years, which for most equates to his second set of antlers, not counting the buttons most will carry in the fall of his first year. His rack will show evidence of gaining both width and height, as opposed to lesser bucks that show what I call "jack rabbit" antlers with more height than width. A young buck that has greater width potential will show curvature in his main beams even when young, much like that shown in the photo below. The larger rack is shown only to give a better perspective on the smaller size of the immature rack. IMO, the young buck who grew this shed, did so during the first summer of his second year. It's too small to be a 2-1/2 year old, and obviously too large for a fawn.
